    1. In my community, grandmothers are the proud keepers of our stories and cultures, and I wanted my girls to learn and embrace our rich Maasai culture. Today, grandmothers do story time with the girls, and it’s a beautiful way our community remains connected.

I am very intrigued that grandmothers in the community are still telling stories about their cultures in Massai. By having these stories, grandmothers and the girls are also building a strong relationship. Having these connections will create a bond that has never sparked before. Young girls need to understand and be able to acknowledge the traditions that have been going on for the past decades.

    2. I built a school just for girls so that they can be free from FGM and early marriage. At my first enrollment—

Kakenya Ntaiy has inspired many girls from all over the community. For example, Kakenya did not want to see these young girls get married to a man older than their fathers. This also includes ending up getting pregnant at a very young age. She always wanted to give back to her community building a school for them, which has been helping them grow themselves.

    3. To empower girls, you need to educate them. That was my dream. And so I built a school, and in the process, I learned something much bigger. When you empower a girl, you transform a community. School is just a start.

By watching this Ted Talk video, I have learned that empowering girls and educating them is very important to our society and community because it can enrich girls to live a happy life without thinking about poverty and education. It can inform them to make better life choices and to strive harder to be successful in life. Another reason for empowering girls is to also break the cycle of poverty that the past generation of women experienced. By doing this, it can strengthen them to work hard and to achieve a degree of success so they do not have to rely on others.

    1. How have I insulted my host?” He pointed at three grains of rice at the bottom of my bowl, and he said, “Clean.”

In my opinion, by reading this, there are a lot of people in our society that are wasteful every year. People are always throwing out leftovers and unwanted items. In the quote above, he should have eaten the three grains of rice that was given to him, instead of claiming that his bowl was clean. Doing so will show that he understands that others have nothing to eat while he is fortunate enough to have food on his plate. In conclusion, the moral of the story is that you should never take food for granted. A person should eat all of the food that is given.

    2. This is the result of my hobby, which is unofficial bin inspections. (Laughter) Strange you might think, but if we could rely on corporations to tell us what they were doing in the back of their stores, we wouldn’t need to go sneaking around the back, opening up bins and having a look at what’s inside.

Corporations may hide things, but this is what we call least privilege. As an employee, we should not be sneaking around such as opening up bins. We have our own responsibilities and that should be it. For example, as an employee working at a supermarket, say Giant, your job may be as a cashier. If you are a cashier for that store, you wouldn't be tasked to go through inventory in back, unless specifically requested by your supervisor for that task. What’s its very suspicious for you to sneak around the back and open up bins. Being the cashier or inventory supplier has nothing to do with opening up bins. Your main goal is a cashier so we will only focus on payments and card transactions with items.

    3. That was the first act of what I later learned to call freeganism, really an exhibition of the injustice of food waste, and the provision of the solution to food waste, which is simply to sit down and eat food, rather than throwing it away.

By reading this context, food waste is a major problem in our society today. When we compare our country to say, third world countries: China, Vietnam or even Thailand to name a few are struggling and living in poverty. They cannot afford food or even have good insurance for their medical bills. In a first world country, we tend to take everything for granted. Look at how we result when we have too much food; we tend to throw away our food when we aren’t hungry. Although maybe a better way to go about this is to appreciate what we have since others do not. In order to fix this solution, if you have a surplus of food supply, donating could be a possibility to those who are in need instead of hoarding or throwing it away. We should not be wasteful just because we are living in a first world country, and not just think about ourselves but those around us too.

    1. Our world today is scoring a C-. The Global Goals are all about getting to an A, and that’s why we’re going to be updating the People’s Report Card annually, for the world and for all the countries of the world, so we can hold our leaders to account to achieve this target and fulfill this promise.

Global Goals are never about getting an A because our society is never going to be 100 percent perfect. There will always be tradeoffs to everything, let alone achieving an A score for Global Goals. We might achieve one thing but something else could pop up so I think there will never really be a perfect globe. Look around us, there are always rich and poor people; it’s been like that for quite a long time. It is just how the world balances out things.

    2. Economic growth seems to have really helped in the fight against poverty, but it doesn’t seem to be having much impact on trying to get to the Global Goals. So what’s going on?

Economic growth is important to our society. The more jobs and opportunities we have for our community, the less poverty there is for people to suffer. By doing this, we can increase the employment rate in our country. I believe what is causing the Global Goals is the corruption from the government. A given scenario can be communist countries such as North Korea or China which are being controlled by the government. Having the government controlling everything makes it hard for economic growth to occur. In a capitalist country where there is a free market, the people are bringing economic growth, not the government.

    3. What do we have to get to achieve the Global Goals?

The things we can do to achieve the global goals is to end poverty and hunger that is happening in our community. In order to achieve these goals, we need to have a good government to ensure that our people are getting what they need to be successful.

    1. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures

Being compassionate not only assists us to work harder, but it encourages us to push ourselves through the suffering so we can enjoy the benefits later on.

    2. The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical, and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves.

Compassion is being able to understand the principles of how we treat ourselves and those around us. It is to treat others how we would want to be treated, such as being respectful. Compassion brings us together as a collective society and helps us move forward as human beings.

    3. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity

By reading this, we should not put hate towards our public/ community. We shouldn’t take others for granted or look down on others. What we should do is be a collective society that encourages and respect one another.
