      Stop searching for ideas in people who you don't relate to, instead, look for it in those that you do ! It is hard to relate to a scholar, so looking for guidance in someone that is close to you and actively working with you is important.

      Doesn't the union of these things allow for learning that actually makes an impact in someone's life? Without these things, people will only learn passively, which imo defeats the purpose of getting an education. Difference in getting an education and claiming an education. To claim is to learn and apply what is taught to your life outside of schooling, to get an education simply means to pass/receive a degree.

      Something that I feel is common within others (including myself). People believe if you don't "find yourself" you're unaccomplished in life, which isn't true.

      I can agree with this. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that it is something more-so recent that had to be fought for, and even still, isn't available everywhere.

      similar to how many professor's teaching styles don't work for everyone, so it is crucial to find something that works for you and not depend on others.

      Strong stereotype, even today. Many (including myself) believe that this is the only way to determine their worth.

      Seeing education as a practice of freedom is really eye opening because it emphasizes that not everyone is allowed to get an education, despite wanting one. It also emphasizes that is something that one should work in hard in, and to not just follow it passively. Overall, something to not take for granted.

      Interesting ! Book was published in 1984, and even in the (about) 30 years since, the same idealogy is applied. Many professors are teaching in a way for only students to consume, instead of truly understand.
