I ended up liking this story a lot more then I thought I would. I had a hard time getting into in and staying engaged but when I did I did enjoy it. It really got me thinking about things in my personal faith that I hadn't focused of before which is cool. It's traditional religious text but it did point out some good points that I enjoyed hearing about and processing. I might try to read it again when I am older and see if I have a different interoperation like the articles had said. All in all not a terrible way to the the semesters readings!

    2. Adam, now ope thine eyes, and first behold Th’ effects which thy original crime hath wrought

Exactly, be a man Adam. You can't talk all that crap about your girl and then act like this.

I defiantly like these books better than the previous ones. Book 7 was my favorite although it got me thinking that god made earth and then let humans loose to there own devices. But I also found it interesting that me made it a more love story between them and Adam would have rather died then lived without his precious Eve. Even though Milton projects women as idiots he still had Adam be stupid in love with Eve. Anyways, I did enjoy reading this part.

    2. Sollicit not thy thoughts with matters hid, Leave them to God above

Again!! I don't believe it is bad to be curious. Finding out how and why things work wont stray someone from faith unless they are looking for a reason already.

    3. And from about her shot Darts of desire Into all Eyes to wish her still in sight

I really like this metaphor. You can feel her eyes and know exactly the energy of it.

    4. Immediate are the Acts of God, more swift Then time or motion, but to human ears Cannot without process of speech be told

Gods works do happen immediately, although humans are not able to see or realize it. They are not told and sometimes don't recognize that works.

I thought that this was going to be more of an opinion story but now it seems more like a story with religious characters. So far I am still struggling with tying everything together but I can understand whats going on as it is happening. I do wish i knew more about what the bible has to say about this time so I could compare but I vaguely recognize the names. I think it's weird how the author seems to put satan as a more important character and the one he focuses on. It makes the reader really think about his side of the story which is definitely not normal. But so far not y favorite reading but I do like it because it is a story.

    2. Imperishable, and though pierc’d with wound, [ 435 ] Soon closing, and by native vigour heal’d.

This makes me wonder, if something hurts but you know you wont die, does it hurt as much?

    3. All Heart they live, all Head, all Eye, all Eare, [ 350 ] All Intellect, all Sense, and as they please, They Limb themselves, and colour, shape or size Assume, as likes them best, condense or rare.

They can literally choice what they want to look like. Wild

    4. And Eve within, due at her hour prepar’d For dinner savourie fruits

The women are already thought to have started making dinner for both automatically from the start.

    5. So passd they naked on, nor shund the sight Of God or Angel, for they thought no ill

There was no one to tell them they should cover them selves so they didn't see a need to. Maybe lives would be better this way and people wouldn't be so insecure.

    6. Tree of Life

Tree of Life- "The tree of knowledge, connecting to heaven and the underworld, and the tree of life, connecting all forms of creation, are both forms of the world tree or cosmic tree, and are portrayed in various religions and philosophies as the same tree."

Even though the actual reading part was easier for me following along was rough. As soon as I felt that I was on top of things they would say something and I would be confused again. Although I'm not super experienced with many religions I did seem to notice the influence of many in obvious ways through out. I also had a hard time figuring out who was talking though out the different books and if it was being told by the same perspective. I hope reading more will help me peace things together!

    2. Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall.

This is so powerful. God gave the ability to be good and prosper but didn't force it. Man can fall if they wished to but have the capability not to.

    3. whereof who drinks, Forthwith his former state and being forgets, [ 585 ] Forgets both joy and grief, pleasure and pain.

This is really had but so true, its why people become addicts.

    4. Be no memorial blotted out and ras’d By thir Rebellion, from the Books of Life. Nor had they yet among the Sons of Eve

How did they come up with this then did he actually believe this happened?

    5. unhappy Mansion,

He talks about how it is going to be stable and free but then speaks of it being an unhappy place? I understand he not all about rainbows but I keep getting mixed purposes.

I didn't really love this reading. I would rather read one long thing then little short ones that I don't really understand and can't really seem to put them all together. After reading all of them, mostly at the same time, I still couldn't really tell you the Kings Crisis of authority, the people had different opinions of him but i don't understand how he failed with his authority in anything but his arrogance and decisions but they weren't much worse that many other kings made. I feel like people being enlightened and the natural laws is what really caused the issue. In my opinion that is what caused his authority crisis. It could be because the readings on that were the only ones I really could interpret and understand what was going on.. could be a little persuaded.

    2. I feel like this guy criticized the parliament so harshly and praised the king but he never really explained what he loved about the past king. He even explained how he didn't like the way the parliament was taking too much kingly power.

    3. And if every one did but quietly enjoy the Earth for food and raiment

If humans acted as regular mammals then the world would be peaceful. If the didn't have a consciousness.

    4. both originally and naturally for their good in the first place, and not his own

A leader should most defiantly serve for his people! Obviously he is going to have a bias due to his own beliefs but he should not be making decisions just for himself.

At the beginning I was thinking the king was super selfish and just trying to make himself feel better by pulling his faith into his actions. But as he may be doing that too, it sounds like others believed he shouldn't have been beheaded either so it's hard to tell who is being extreme.

    6. I call God to witnesse

So he is saying that because they can't really have god come testify, he hopes that people will have faith and god will even out his punishment.

    7. think well upon it, I say, think well upon it, before you go further from one sin to a greater

He is threatening them?? I understand he is the king but I would still be trying to kiss up to these people as he already got low enough to this position.

    8. After a stern looking upon the Court, and the people in the Galleries on each side of him, he places himself, not at all moving his Hat, or otherwise showing the least respect to the Court

Doesn't sound like a very good way to to get on the good side of the court... yikes

This is honestly the most interesting and fascinating thing I have ever read/listened to. I listened the the middle section on my drive home (hence no annotations). And I felt like I was just as drawn in as if I was reading it. I honestly think this should be developed into a children's movie or something of that sorts as they would be interested but it would also teach them so much. This was by far my favorite reading we have don't so far, even though it was long I wanted to read and finish it although I feel a bit unsatisfied with the last part. Is that truly end end or did it get cut off? Either way I have already told three people they should read this because I was completely fascinated the whole time. 10/10

    2. delight and pleasure which the Duchess took in making this World-of-her-own.

I see this having a double meaning. She tried to be like everyone else but it always failed for one reason or another so once she trusted in her own abilities and in herself she was able to create something personal to herself and close to her heart.

    3. Spirit is ignorant of my hand-writing. The truth is, said the Empress, he did not mention your hand-writing; but he informed me, that you writ Sense and Reason, and if you can but write so, that any of my Secretaries may learn your hand, they shall write it out fair and intelligible.

Yes I love this!! I have terrible handwriting so this makes me really happy. haha

    1. What you have done is to draw two peoples, The Geat nation and us neighboring Danes, Into shared peace and a pact of friendship

Not only is he a great warrior and fighter, he went out of his way to create peace. This means that he has good values and truly stands for his cause. Unlike Cuchullian who really only cared about war and destruction.

    2. That great heart rested

Earlier the king was saying how they couldn't rest because the sorrow had came back. Now that the demons where killed, they could truly rest again.

    3. he must endure woes And live with grief for as long as his hall Stands at the horizon, on its high ground

He recognizes that Hrothgar will and does feel responsible for all the deaths and he won't be able to move on until he stops it.

    4. waged his lonely war

I like this line. I feel like not a lot of people think of war being lonely but he is fighting his own battle all by himself. And the fact that he could potentially stop whenever he wanted makes him seem even more lonely because he doesn't.

    5. The vicious raids of Grendel, His long and unrelenting feud, Nothing but war; how he would never Parley or make peace with any Dane Nor stop his death-dealing nor pay the death-price.

This reminds me of a TV show Vampire Diaries. It's silly but still a connection. In the show there is a character named Stephen that goes on rampaged with "no remorse" for the people he kills or hurts. This puts the image of him in my head when reading.

    6. he never showed remorse

What exactly was his motive then? If he had no remorse for their deaths then he must have a really good motive or must just be programmed to kill.

    7. the killer instinct Unleashed among in-laws, the blood-lust rampant. Then a powerful demon, a prowler through the dark, Nursed a hard grievance

To my interpretation he is relating what causes brother to kill brother a demonic power. But It's interesting because he is still saying it is a normal and natural thing that is inevitable in this environment.
