Just as science has historically excluded communities of Black, Indigenous and people of color,[80] LGBTQ+ communities[81] and communities of lower socioeconomic status or education,[80] science communication has also failed to center these audiences.[82][83] Science communication cannot be inclusive or effective if these communities are not involved in both the creation and dissemination of science information.[84][85] One strategy to improve inclusivity in science communication is by building philanthropic coalitions with marginalized communities.[85][86][87]
