      the author believes that she is something to be watched, perceived, and ultimately, that she serves as a muse to the audience

      i sort of imagine her saying this to herself. is she her own enemy? everything up unto this point is about herself; her face, her foot, her skin. i would presume she is talking about herself in this, maybe she is her own worse enemy.

      this demonstrates the characters true intention. she is not there to experience the sensationalized myth of the wreck, rather, she is there to marvel at the wreck itself.

      I like this- it reminds me of how vast the ocean is. It also shows how the character feels like she is helpless and lacking direction, hoping that someone will tell her where to go.

      Very different to the defiant yet lighthearted tone of the poem. Seems to be insinuating that death is the inevitable end for these students.

    1. Like “rent,” “feeding a wife,” “satisfying a man.”

      These are the duties that call an individual away from dreaming. When people are so preoccupied with their duties, they forget to actually live and be imaginative.

    2. Even if we were willing to let it in,

      Dreaming is a choice. While people can actively and passively daydream, the act of dreaming is a choice. "Even if we were" implies that the author and the person they were writing to did not allow themselves to dream, or allow the whimsy of dreaming to overtake them.
