      running out of time for what exactly? the speaker her fears for the future as she realizes the longer both of them wait, the less likely they are to actually so something.

      "nothing" is the new everything in this scenario. the town is the place they both grew closer to one another. she likely got out of the town of golden memories to fend for herself; to let go of the memories. she wonders if the object had done the same for having no remorse to her apology at all
