    1. In particular, the DoOO program has really been a game-changer for us. Students create ePorts

      Knowing that it was my own ePort and I could write whatever I wanted with not really too many guidelines, helped me express what I thought and share more of what I learned about my major.

    2. Empowers learners to contribute to– not just consume– knowledge;

      Since I had created my own major, it makes me want to learn more and absorb information more that will help me throughout my life.

    3. We have Women’s Studies majors (currently, the university only offers a minor) and Industrial Design majors

      When I started off going to school here, I was undecided. After over a year of being undecided, I knew I had to choose a major. I tried some business classes, but they were not for me. I knew there was a Women's Studies minor, but I really wanted to major in it because that would be the best fit for me. I looked into it and learned that there was an Interdisciplinary Studies program and that it was possible to make Women's Studies my major. Doing this, I got to choose classes that would best fit into my major and it has worked out so well for me!

    1. Education is, first and foremost, an enterprise of sharing. In fact, sharing is the sole means by which education is effected. If an instructor is not sharing what he or she knows with students, there is no education happening.

      I think OER is so important to education. Everyone should have access to the best open text books even if someone couldn't afford it. Education is sharing and that's very important for a successful learning experience.

    1. the need for learning contexts that bring together in-school and out-of-school learning and activity.

      I think that it is important for your classes to have to do with outside subjects, not something that doesn't help you out in the "real world". A lot of times if a student thinks that the class is useless and doesn't relate to something in real life, they may not want to do well in it.

    1. What makes them tick? There is no better way to hone the ability to work with others who complement rather than mirror one’s own skills.

      Working with others and learning new information from others is very important for education. Why do you think working with people that mirror's ones own skills isn't as useful?

    1. The disciplines that we have been taught since the beginning of elementary school have been such a crucial part in who we are as students, and who we become in our careers after graduation.

      I agree that the disciplines that we were taught at an early age are very important. It shapes our learning path and what we would want to do for careers in the future.

    1. If no one wants to read the hastily constructed blog post for a class participation grade, then what is the purpose of making it public? If assignments are going to live online, don’t they need to be connected to a public dialogue? Don’t they need to be oriented at the proper audience? The web is a network for conversations, and if students still see their audience as a teacher with a red pen, then nothing changes.

      I think over time, and the more you post, the more audience will grow.

    1. The importance of giving students responsibility for their own domain cannot be overstated. This can be a way to track growth and demonstrate new learning over the course of a student’s school career – something that they themselves can reflect upon, not simply grades and assignments that are locked away in a proprietary system controlled by the school.

      I agree that it is important, I feel like I do better work when I know i have an audience (even just a small one) instead of writing a 10 page research paper that is just going to be seen by me and my professor.

    2. These legislative efforts stress the need to protect students when they’re online, safeguarding their data from advertisers as well as from unscrupulous people and companies.

      I have never had this issue before, but I am assuming it is a large issue since this type of protection was set.
