I think it is so telling of a society and where we are in it to have to think that people are having to cross boarders, and/or work in secret to try and get the health care they need, not because where they live do not have the capability and resources to be able to provide them the care they need (which is a whole other conversation), but because the goverment has deemed it illegal, or put up so much 'red tape' around getting the treatments or in this case abortion, that it is easier to go somewhere else than try and get it done where they live. As well, it also speaks to the length at which others are willing to go to help someone they probably don't even know because they understand what not getting it might mean.

This idea of "'rescusing' the unborn child - regardless of the cost to the real, living woman" is something that is also a very real topic today close to home across the boarder in many states now where they are trying to pass laws against abosrtion, but also here in Canada. I remeber growing up going to highschool across the road from the local hospital and regularly seeing people with signs outside the hospital protesting against abortion and yelling things about it and biblical exepts from the bible. But not once were any of these people taking into account to person who is the one having to actually go through this pregancy. You never hear them talking about any of the actualities of if someone was to go through with a pregancy who was trying to get an abortion for any numerous reasons. They always talk about 'rescusing' this unborn child, but only until the child is born and then it isn't their problem if the child actually receives proper child care.

I think this paragraph as well as the paragraph above talks heavily about what we touched onto today in class as well as otherclass. The idea of these gender role ideologies of the "role of women" to be to stay home and raise the kids and the "mans role" is to go out into the world and work to provide to his family. This also touches a lot on what is currently happening united states wher people in power are trying to take away rights of people who are not male, or conform to the ideology of those making the rules and are in power.
