    1. land

The way I interpret the scattering of the word land, is that it seems as if it has been the most important concept to talk about within humanity. And this has persisted for centuries with people literally killing each other over land. I interpret it as "land, land, land." There we go discussing land once again. **

    1. Also, historical events will not be dramatized for an "interesting" read

Makes me reflect on how more oftentimes than not, a 'heroic' role is given to many atrocities while making the oppressed look like the oppressor.

    1. culturally inappropriate for what she was trying to accomplish.

This reminds me of how many culturally significant books are banned from American literature, in my opinion, as a way of silencing and continuing to hide the dark truth well hidden within history.

    1. I'm sure you don't mean any harm, I'm sureyou don't really think abt us at all.

Although in theory it may be true that no intended harm is the case here, the fact of the matter is that nonetheless, this does cause harm. This line in particular demonstrates the initial problem; the fact that no real thought is *actually granted to important issues as is this one.

    1. nd stroll past panoramic muralsthat embody creation stories that start with gifts offree land.

I think it is extremely sad and even disturbing to learn about the cruelties rooting from many "founding fathers" from many institutions.

    1. gray-faced figures who loom over you in the night,

Motherhood is exactly this; fatigue and long nights. Fatigue eventually shows in one's face, especially in a mother, essentially referenced by "gray-faced figures."

    1. He remained ambivalent, however, about leaving behind everything and everyone heknew in Mexico for the United States, a place he scarcely recognized as home.

This is often the struggle with immigrants leaving their country. The only reason they leave their country is because of necessity. However, upon arrival, they must deal with the issue of assimilation.

    1. Í would feel the futility ofany attempt to salvage myself, and abo the inequality betweenus: my needs always balanced against those of a child, and al-ways losing.

This particular line stood out to me, as I feel it really presents what motherhood is really like. Motherhood consists of much sacrifice in order to ensure the child's well-being, which essentially goes hand-in-hand with the fact that needs are constantly at a "balance."

    1. Thecontinued dismissal of trans women as unable to be lesbians reflectsthe persistence of a kind of stubbornness one might call, for dramaticeffect, Raymondian—as Janice Raymond’s The Transsexual Empire

More than persistence and stubbornness, the continued dismissal of trans women is related to social pressures that include politics and even cultural beliefs.

    1. I felt an overwhelming indignation at the legal helplessness of a poor, rich Indian woman.

Although full of riches, none of these mattered simply because she was a woman deprived of her rights by a man. Reading this makes me thankful for the many opportunities granted to woman today that do not involve "guardians" or ownership placed upon by men.

    1. Frying in excess is not to be recommended as foods fixed inthis way are often indigestible.

Part of the reason why the diet of a foreigner, in this case, a Mexican, becomes jeopardized in America is precisely because of this reason. Typically, foreigners such as Mexicans are accustomed to natural foods, while America is the complete opposite, dominated by, ironically, fried foods.

    1. proclaimed that a “suicide mania” indiscriminately targetedunmarried girls in their teens and early twenties: “one day, a young girl committedsuicide because she was accused of theft, while another took her own life becauseshe felt sure of failing in college examinations for which she had overstudied.”

Even now, I believe that the stress produced by being a college student is a great contributor to deteriorating mental health. It is very unfortunate how even when this is clearly a reoccurring issue within young populations, there is still little to no coverage placed upon the importance of young people and mental health.

    1. When the scandalerupted and the white girls who lived in large stately homes withpowerful fathers disclosed the things the artist had forced chem todo, no one mentioned her or any other black girl.

Marked by discrimination, the fact that only white women were considered as victims of this presents just how segregated and dangerous discrimination can really be.

    1. I don't believe I have to provide an excuse

This is a very emotive statement considering how much reproductive rights are put up for debate. The main issue found within this debate is the issue where a woman really *should not * have to provide explanations as to why their lack of desire towards motherhood exists.

    1. “If in your slave life you have been careless of your morals, now that you arefree, live as becomes a free Christian woman. Stamp a lie upon the commonremark, that colored women are all bad,

Even when they had become free from slavery, repercussions still remained - this time on the basis of gender. The interpretation I retrieve from this, is the fact that even when free, they were never really free.

    1. I am why they survived

This phrase is of prevalence in my opinion, since it remarks on the ideals that women, historically, have kept their households stable for as long as history may recall. Not only do they birth their children and consequently build a family, but they are also the primary caretakers for a lifetime.

    1. In the early 1970s the movements for equity for women in the professionalsocieties and the growth of Women’s Studies erupted throughout the aca-demic world; they would lead eventually to a transformation of academicdisciplines and to the curtailment of the unchecked male dominance inthe structures of higher education.

One of the main reasons why I decided to take this course was due to the fact that many organizations that were pivotal to the transformation of women's rights are not really known. Personally, a hispanic first generation female undergrad, this greatly interests me. I am a strong believer in a sort of domino effect within history; the base has already been created and unfortunately, there is still plenty of work to be done in order to develop a world with more inclusivity. Learning about previous struggles is surely to pave the way towards this!

    2. Less favored students or thosewhose professors were not well connected in the network simply lost out.Women and minorities tended to be among the losers.

As I read this, I immediately concluded that women would inevitably be among the group of losers resulting from this sense of favors. Previously stated in the literature, it was exponentially difficult for women to build connections within these groups, especially with the fact that there were little to no females here. Due to this, it was to be expected that they would be dismissed from any potential job openings.

    1. digital discomfort, we argue, encouraged trust in the collaborative process, which necessitated and helped build individual research consciousness.

This is especially reasonable because I feel like the stronger there's a foundation of trust, the more there's a decrease of "digital discomfort."

    2. The social media of the early twentieth-century, it could be argued, was postcards.

Although I personally had never thought of postcards in this way, I can see how they mark a start towards social media. From the way in which they are utilized to communicate, to the way their cinematic pictures capture the beauty of a landscape, this all sounds like a short-transition to what later would've became a very digital world.

    1. Despite the dangers, socialmedia became a tool for cultural critique, political dissent, and formingcommunities of chosen kin.

Social media has definitely been utilized as a very important tool towards awareness as well as vital influence towards society as a whole. It has marked far more cultural acceptance through awareness, mainly. Awareness that is spread drastically.

    2. Left unattended, these devasta-tions reproduce themselves in digital architecture, even when and wheredigital humanists believe they advocate for social justice

This statement is of high importance, in my opinion, because it is true that through the attempt of expression through architecture, it can be more detrimental than anything. I feel like this is mainly because the relevancy of these terrible situations becomes a prominent one, a prominent digital archive. This point further provides evidence as to how the usage of digital media can also have pitholes just as it can have advantages.

    1. Meanwhile, historians pursuing the transnational angle should consider the valueof practices that ground their work, not just those that speed and expand it.

Definitely agree with this. The practices that ground their work are undoubtedly built upon hard work by other dedicated historians who deserve to be exponentially valued for all they've done.

    2. Yet those of us trained in an analog age can look back at how information used towork, and measure the transformation

By "measuring the transformation," the author suggests the importance of the path it took to get to where we are now as a modern world. Especially coming from older generations, the transformation and change in the world is one to be proud of, but fearful at the same time due to the wrong usage of so much information at our fingertips.

    3. It opens shortcuts that enable ignorance as well asknowledge

This statement properly addresses the fact that although very useful and innovative, the web also enhances the wrong usage of so much available information.

    1. These efforts encourage instructors to teach and discuss difficult historical, cultural, and political topics with their students

I feel like discussing "difficult" history has always been a flaw in American history, since as we grow up, we learn new perspectives as to how certain events truly occurred. That is why I feel it is important to re-educate ourselves on certain "difficult" topics and utilize our unlimited resources rightfully and intellectually. And a good place to start would definitely be through our instructors.

    2. Motivated by the potential to expose and document voices from underserved and under-heard communities, individuals and organizations gravitated to the Web to harness the power of computers to collect, analyze, and present digitized data.

This statement rightfully captures the impact and usefulness of technology in this day and age. Of course it is still a very faulty resource when we take into consideration the quick spread of false information. However, the quickness of the spread of information through the media is what makes it so great. For example, I could not help but think of the George Floyd situation where a video was a very reliable source of undeniable evidence behind the cruelty that was taking place. Without it being so accessible, the fight for proper justice would've only been significantly jeopardized.

    1. “an approachto examining and representing the past; it uses new communication tech-nologies and media applications and experiments with computationalmethods for the analysis, production, and dissemination of historicalscholarship.”

Although I feel like "digital history" can be defined as many things, I feel like this definition captures the main concepts behind it. With the new reliance on digital media, examination on the past is simplified through many different ways, as it is stored/archived for a timeless amount of time. In fact, any search, any activity on our behalf on the media is creating history that is to be potentially analysed in the future.

    1. If you have one eye on how close you are to achieving your goal, that leaves only one eye for your task.

I really like this analogy simply because I feel like it accurately articulates the loss of real concentration on actually learning. Instead, we tend to become concentrated on quickly completing something, essentially rushing, instead of taking the time to ensure comprehension.

    2. Grades tend to diminish students’ interest in whatever they’re learning.

Personally, I find this to be true because even when my learning is on something that interests me, I still struggle to complete it only because of the many guidelines associated with its completion. I feel like the idea of potentially doing terribly grade-wise takes away from my motivation and essentially may influence a poorly-done, but completed assignment.
