    1. Because WoW is a complex sys- tem with no single obvious solutio

Just from the article alone, i can tell WOW is very complicated! But its interesting reading the discussions for research

    2. video games are important because they let people participate in new worlds

I think thats why games are so much more appealing because you get to participate in the learning process

    1. Face-to-face embodied interaction with people and the world is where "the rubber meets the road" and where we get real impact and change in the physical world in which we all live.

      I couldn't agree more!

    2. the virtual spaces of many different sorts of fan-based, interest-driven Internet sites where they discuss, learn, and teach about the games they play.

Im a big fan of reading about the lore of my favorite games, so this makes a lot of sense.

    3. This whole big space of spaces I will call an "affini- ty space" because people were connected in it by their shared affinity for Catholici

I love how it is every place that deals with catholicism and not just a church. I wouldn't have pictured out door gatherings a part of a catholic affinity space.

    1. Rolling dice createsexcitement that matches the theme without overwhelming the need for skill.

This closely relates to how playing DND feels. When you have an action you want to successfully do right, it's all up to the die at the end of the day. It makes it exciting

    2. Luck trumps every other mechanicin these games.

Yes I agree! it is all about luck with monopoly, there can be strategy but that comes with the luck of the roll.

    1. “He related everything to numbers. We just thought it was normal.

    1. It can mean yet other things inother situations, and sometimes we have to come up with novel meanings forthe word; for example in a sentence like “Her coffee skin glistened in thebright sunshine,”“coffee” names a skin color.

This reminds me of people referencing the word tea, not as a drink, but as an expression used to talk about drama. I hear people say "let me give you the tea" when they are about to talk about something interesting that happened.

    2. Later I will point out that a word like “work,”in fact, has different meanings even within a single domain, like the cannery, aca-demics, or romantic relationships, meanings that vary according to differentsituations in the domain

Before I got into graphic design i always correlated "work" with you basic jobs that we learned about as kids. For example, I always imagined a work setting always placed in an office, Of course thats not the case but when i think of work my mind always goes to some sort of office space.

    3. they are so deeply rooted in the history of western thought,

This statement has a lot of truth to it in more then just the context of this chapter

    4. Many people who don’t play video games, especially older people, are sure tosay that playing video games is “a waste of time.”

I have heard this so many times from my parents. I think it mostly came from the fact that I was a girl enjoying video games rather than just enjoying video games. Ive made it a personal goal of mine to show them all of the benefits that can come from playing video games.

    5. “according to the rules.”

It's interesting on how we have just given different rules based on certain type of reading and writing to critique. From what I remember, in grade school it all seemed to be a general way or critiquing a writing assignment or how to read the text given.

    1. What's the point in taking a class about games if you aren't having a little bit of fun?!

I love this so much and I am happy to be able to share my experiences in relation to the class! its such a great idea for this class!

    2. Throughout the semester, you will be working on designing a meaningful game, which you will ultimately submit as your final project. This is not a course on game designor on technical skills, so you will not be assessed on whether your game is technically impressive(or even fun).

Im very excited about making a game in general but also very nervous about what to expect in the process.

    3. I am fully committed to making sure that you learn everything you were hoping to learn from this class! Although formal deadlines are an important part of giving structure to a class, my late policy and willingness to make accommodations are pretty generous even during normal times, and if this pandemic (or anything else) is turning your life upside down, I'm willing to be as flexible as you need me to be. I have also adjusted the weekly activities for the course so that some are optional. I think all of the activities are worth completing, but this isn't the semester to be picky about that.

This is such a relief to hear this! Ive been extremely nervous about juggling grad school, a few jobs, and everything else that goes along with life. This helps so much so thank you!
