    1. In conclusion, this is all about how I believe social media is a discourse community. Many people may agree with me but then many may disagree with me, which is very understandable. Everyone has their own point of views, and I completely respect that.  I hope I was good enough to explain to you how I believe social media is a discourse community. If there is anything I can do better to make my essay stand out even better I would love to know what I can work on. What is your discourse community?

I really enjoyed the way you started off your essay. Social Media can be very controversal and not an easy topic to discuss. There are just certain aspects I would like more detail on. This is an interest for me. Think back to Murray. Fine tuning the internal details will help the overall picture.

    2. I had interviewed my parents, and they were talking about how it’s so much different. In the 1980s they didn’t have IPhones, there were flip phones.

Where is the detail? How do your parents feel about it now? Do they use it now? How did they communicate when they were younger? What genres did they use ? How does it compare and contrast to now?

    3. What are lexis in a discourse community? A Lexis is a set of terms that are unique to the discourse community. Such as terms that no one would understand if they don’t use social media.

At this point I expect a breakdown of lexis that would be utilized in both social networking and video hosting sites.

    4. Video hosting sites is a platform to post videos for public or just keep it private. There are many pros and cons to that. Let’s start off with the cons. Something that I believe is really important is that you get influenced by what you see online and can be wanting to do that. And you may not realize that it’s bad for you. Another reason why I say it can be con is that it can mentally affect your brain. I’m not sure how to exactly word it but your so deep into it that you start acting up as if it’s all real but it’s just a video. Some pros can be that for educational purposes you can just search up a video and it can help you understand in a creative way. Another positive thing about video hosting sites is that it can help you with anything like you need to know how to cook? Look up a cooking video but of course it’s good until you don’t use it in the wrong way.

Its great that you added your personal opinion. What I need next is what is this platform used for? Entertainment, Education, etc or is it all of these things.

    5. There are many types of genres in social media such as discussion sites, blogs, social networking sites and video hosting sites. However, I will focus more on social networking sites and video hosting sites.

The author defines what a genre is and lists the different types. I expect her to narrow down the list and focus in detail on her choices.

    6. I’m going to be talking about is social media. What exactly is social media? Social media is a way of technon;gy that connects you with one another.

At this point I understand, the author has chosen to discuss Social Media. What I expect next is some examples of different forms.

    1. In conclusion, you can say that special education does achieve its goals , have the same purpose, genre and lexis are used. Now, I truly understood what the discourse community is. I had an idea about what community is but because of the readings I was able to understand that communication is of prime importance to truly understand what discourse community means. I think that Special Education is a discourse community because they use a special set of lexis which is a requirement for being a discourse community. They use a specific set of resources and genres for communication between teachers and also with the student. Their common goal is to help the student with disability in overcoming their challenges. They also have different levels ranging from novice to expert.

Overall, good job. I definitely think you have great ideas, however, think back to Murray essay. Both internal and external revisions will help you. Play around with the flow a little bit. Maybe keep everything in regards to your interviews together and the history together. Think of it as an experiment .I myself sometimes have trouble with flow.

    2. Another special education teacher I talked to was Ms. Smith, who was a novice. She had just graduated and started her first full-time job as an assistant teacher in a special education class for fifth grade in a middle school.

I expect the next thing to be is Ms.Smiths specific struggles and how she plans on improving.

    3. She also mentioned about resources that can be used, which the community provides to get a clearer understanding of the requirements that each student would have

      What are the resources?

    4. she said that a special education teacher needs to be calm in those situations and help the student, guiding them through the problem instead of scolding or punishing them.

What I need now is, how does she accomplish that?

    5. I got a chance to talk to Ms. Fagan, she has been in this community for many years. She graduated with a Bachelors of Education and a specialization in Special Education. She is a middle school teacher, who handles a sixth grade class of six students. She teaches all the subjects to the students, like English, Math, Science and some other classes. She mentioned that she loves teaching these kids, she said that these kids are in a special education class and need some help with their work, but she loves helping them learn and see their progress throughout the year.

Great way for a comeback with the details in the interview.

    6. In a discourse community communication is a key.The communication between Special education teachers and students plays a very integral role in students wellbeing. Insufficient communication between teachers can negatively affect students academically. One thing which I notice in my experience was that teachers used a lot of technology to help children with special education to learn better, they also used to play audio of the session and the words which were difficult for them or they needed better understanding, teachers used to have information of it on other page like a link which mostly contained visual images which help students to understand the topic in  a great way. Special Education teachers also used to prepare a booklet for students about a topic which contained a game page, joke page, circling the words which were used which enhanced their creative skills. Also teachers have to take precise measures for students because some students’ conditions were very fragile. Teachers need to take much care of students as it can be hard for some students to grasp easily. That’s why teachers use lexis with students and sometimes they repeat things again and again so that students can understand it far better.

The main point of this seems to be the genres and methods special education teachers use to help the students aprehend more effectively. Your details were great here.

    7. Like some examples are IEP and 504, those are special plans that are assigned to the students based on their level of disability and the difficulty they face in a classroom.

I am confused here. Are IEP and 504 a lexis or educational plans?

    8. I learned that there are two separate programs that are designed to help Disabled students. Those are Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans. The IEPs are governed by civil rights law and have some requirements that need to be fulfilled for a disabled student to join an IEP. The student needs to have one of the thirteen disabilities mentioned in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the students progress is also tracked and he should be benefited from the special education program to remain in the program. The other program is the 504 plan, which is governed by the civil right law. This plan helps the students who are facing difficulties in their general education classes due to some type of disability. They are provided with an accomodation to support them in their general education classes. Usually those who are deemed ineligible for the IEP services would have a 504 plan.

This would have been great at the beginning of the essay. After giving that brief history this would flow very nice with it.

    9. I understood that if you try to explain them in lexis they will be able to understand it.

It sounds like you used different forms of lexis, but what were they specifically. Are there any key words that are commonly used to help students understand better.

    10. I taught children about special education and it was hard to communicate with them and the lexis which teachers used to teach students about.

Im confused here, did you teach special education students or did you teach students about special education?

    11. The first interview which I took was of Ms Arizona. She is a special education teacher and she told me that they used to do cooking in which the students would be given a recipe and they used to do cooking. I think this is also a genre which is used in special education classes as well. The other interview which I took was of Mr Dsouza. He is a teacher in special education as well and he told me that not many people could handle students well and they did not have a better understanding on how to treat children.

I think it was great that the author took the time to interview special education teachers. What I need is more details about them. What is their education background? How long have they been teachers? What are some of their daily routines?

    12. To be a member in a discourse community you need to have an experience and great amount of understanding about a discourse community in which you are a part. Like to be a special education teacher you need to understand how to make children feel involved and you need to emotionally connect with students. Also you need a special education degree to make sure you are able to give a academically balanced environment to students.Special education teachers also need to have a  good sense of humor, confidence and be creative in teaching methods Members always try to make sure that they truly get involved in a community.

The main point of this was to inform readers about being apart of the discourse community. Details are used to explain why.

    13. Special education came into existence almost in the last fifty years. Special education began in the 20th century in which parents formed an advocacy to help children for education.

This is a great start for background history. What I need now is a little more depth. What controversy led to the existence of special education? Did parents or teachers begin this journey?

    14. According to wikipedia discourse community means group of people who share common ideas and set of goals, discourses, basic values and assumptions. Education has a lot of varied discourse communities and it has diverse perspectives and information.Lexis are magical words which are unique words used in discourse communities. Each discourse community has their own set of unwritten rules.

The main point of this was to explain to me what a discourse community is. At this point, I understand what a discourse community is, however, I am confused about what the main focus is. Is it Special Education or Special Education Teachers.

    15. This means the focus will be on special education teachers. Teachers is a very broad discourse community and the author narrowed down her topic to special education.

    1. According to wikipedia discourse community means group of people who share common ideas and set of goals, discourses, basic values and assumptions.

At this point, I understand what contributes to a discourse community.
