    1. It’s not that I am consciously doing this art — it’s organic and I am just learning,

Art can sometimes come from a mistake but those mistakes can really inspire you to keep learning and make mistakes because sometimes thats how you usually find what you are passionate about in life.

    2. Renaissance High School for Musical Theater & Technology, in the Bronx, but she had never had the means to pursue it. “I was just, like, over my dreams,” she said. “To me, it’s all about money. I gave it a try when I could afford it.”

I really like the way the writter combines information and direct quotes from the artist it makes you want to keep reading and find out what she really thinks about and how she was feeling as she had to make the choices she had to make at such a young age in order to do what she was most passionate about.

    3. He was always traveling, and I was always traveling. We’re artists. So I used to see him, like, twice a week, and, you know, he’s known for having different women, and I’m known for, like, not taking shit from guys. But we really loved each other, and we was scared to lose each other.”

I really like that when they use direct quotes from the artist it really sounds like their voice and how they would say it.

    1. Never let anything go out into the world that you don’t understand.

I think its good to Know that we can make chances as we deem necesary in order to make sure that everyone can understand it.

    2. people who have never been interviewed before, and they will warm to the process awkwardly, self-consciously, perhaps not giving you anything you can use. Come back another day; it will go better.

I think that once you both get comfortable with eachother everything does go smother because you are both willing to be more open to eachother and be a Little more vulnerable while being interviewed.

    3. If you like the new direction, follow along and forget the questions you intended to ask.

This can also bring up something that you might never had thought about but sheds a new light in that matter of subject and could even make the essay better.

    4. The result was four decades’ worth of personal memories on how America’s reading tastes had changed, and even the books took on a life of their own and became characters in my story

Everyone has things they learn form other people or just by observing and listening. You might not remember it in a week, month or even a year later but someday you are going to recal what you learned and apply it to your life.

    1. The midnight insight was right. It was a moment of self knowledge. It was a moment of ‘higher consciousness’ when it was possible to stand back from experience and see it more clearly.

I feel like everyone at one point hasn’t been able to fall asleep and end up thinking about what we have done through out the day and if we should have reacted in a different way and stuff like that.

    2. But there are also scenarios where the child is criticised and no one notices that the criticism cuts too deep.

Sometimes as children we tend to take criticism a little hard especially when it looks like they mean it and sometimes it is something that can help shape us into the person we will be even if they didn’t mean it the way we interpreted it.

    3. We may fall prey to unnecessary loneliness: not understanding what we really need and what makes us hard to get to know.

Sometimes even when you’ve live with the same people you can feel lonely because although they’re supposed to know you sometimes it feels like they don’t really know you at all. It tends to make you feel worse when their responses are get over it and such because it makes you feel like they don’t care.

    4. We repeat unhealthy patterns from childhood, always latching on to people who will frustrate us in familiar but grievous ways

When we are so used to being surrounded by the same type of energy or situations when something new arises we get scared of leaving what’s familiar even when it seem like it will be better if we leave. Which is why i think that we are in the same reaping cycle just with different situations.

    1. we need to make messes in order to find out who we are and why we are here

This part of the sentence describes what many things in life are like messy because if everything is perfect everything would be boring and you wouldn't grow into your own person.

    2. it reveals some interesting stuff about you and your family and the times in which you grew up.)

Like Mrs. Allegra said writing tends to make you very vulnerable and bring out old feelings that you yourself could have forgotten and bring them all up to the surface wether they be good or bad it makes you think about how you truly felt at the time and discover more about yourself that you didn't think possible.

    3. Memoir isn’t the summary of a life; it’s a window into a life, very much like a photograph

I really like how they are describing what a memoir is. Memoir sounds a lot like a Spanish word memoria which means memory which is what I think a memoir should be like getting glimpses into your most important memory's that have stayed with you throughout life.

    4. Why do they think they need permission to write about the experiences and feelings they know best—their own?

Sometimes as students we forget that's it's okay to write in our own style or about what we know best because sometimes all we're thinking about are getting the best grades that we can because for as long as we are in school we tend to make everything about getting good grades it's somewhat drilled into our heads that we need to get good grades in order to achieve great things in life.

    1. For the boys and girls who grew in spite of these things to be man and woman, to laugh and dance and sing

This line reminds me that no matter what the circumstances are you are always in control of your decisions and you can make the most of it because in the end you are always learning from either good or bad experiences that are shaping you into the person you choose to be.

    2. mother-hands that pet and shape and slap, that sew you together

Sometimes in order to help you grow parents give you tough love but they do it to help you learn and and for you to be your own independent person that they know you are. That’s why parents at the end of the day will always be there for you not because you need them but because they want to support you.

    1. no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life.

Sometimes we end up putting our self's down and were always being to hard on our self's that we end up thinking in a very negative way that we don't even see whats so great about our self's even if its something you don't think is important its great to just remind yourself of at least one thing that was positive in your day.

    2. rain will wash away everything if you let it.

Rain is like being reborn again its something that cleanses your soul it's somewhat like being baptized and taking all the bad things away because once its gone you're going to end up seeing all the beautiful things in life that are great.
