    1. One percent of the population owns 48 percent of the total net financial wealth. The top 10 percent owns 86 percent of the wealth, while the top 20 percent owns 94 percent of the wealth. Meanwhile, 80 percent of the population is experiencing stagnating and declining wages.

I really don't get how this happens and how money is divided between everyone. Why does the majority not have enough money to even live their lives happily? Why does that 1% have so much and how?

    2. Black intelligence is always guilty before proven innocent in the court of the life of the mind: The Bell Curve2 is just a manifestation of the cycle.

This is extremely sad, and it makes me even more sad and angry that it still exists today, even after so many years of learning and reflecting. Not much has changed.

    3. tradition is not something you inherit—if you want it, you must sacrifice for it. In other words, tradition must be fought for. . . .

I really love the idea how every religion or tradition is different and everyone's ideas of sacrifice is very different from each other. There's always going to be something or someone fights for and they sacrifice so much for that and I think that's beautiful.

    1. That indicates people who have "personal issues" use violent games to relieve those issues, before their actions get the best of them.

From personal experience, I do play lots of video games, specifically first person shooter games, to relieve stress or to relax after a long week. Some video games can make you "rage quit" after playing it for a while and you keep losing but I don't think it will be enough to go on mass shootings.

    2. I'm concerned as to why society has decided to look closer at games now more than before - even when massacres were occurring then.

It is true that there have been violent acts even before violent video games have become popular or maybe even existed in the first place. Which raises the question if video games really are the sole reason for these violent acts.

    3. people have to be held responsible for their own actions and not blame it on a game.

This claim is saying video games isn't bad and shouldn't be the reason gun violence exists.

    1. "mental illness," not human agency, motivates murderous acts.

I think it is the act itself that motivates these acts, and their enjoyment about it. We will never truly know what causes people to go on mass shootings.

    2. aming companies are inadvertently training the minds of teenagers to kill in mass without remorse.

Gaming companies are knowingly training teenagers to harden their emotions and become used to killing.

    3. Video gaming is used by the military to train recruits to kill, especially those who seem reluctant to take a life.

The same games that kids play for fun is being used by the military to harden them emotionally and become used to killing someone.

    4. all spent endless hours playing violent video games such as World of Warcraft and Combat Arms.

Their proposal is that the reason for all the mass shootings relate to the amount of hours spent playing violent video games.

    5. mental illness is the common link among the recent mass shootings

I think most of the reasons for school shooting are due to bullying and neglect from other students. It could be the same for the mass shootings elsewhere but only they would know the real reason.

    6. violent video games trains children not only in the use of weapons but hardens them emotionally to the task of killing.

From personal experience I was always terrified of death and blood in video games as a kid, now I don't realize I am shooting the enemy team with guns that actually exist.

    1. after a week of daily video gaming, brain scans of a small group of volunteers showed less activity in the regions connected to emotions, attention, and inhibition of impulses compared to participants who played non-violent video games. The effect appeared to be reversible, but the results suggested that extended periods of play could lead to more stable changes in the brain.

Violent video games will make one show less emotoin and can harden ones emotions about these violent games but it is not permanent. If played for a really long time I think it can change how the brain approaches violence.

    2. that the rise in popularity of video gaming has not been matched by a similar rise in violent crime among adolescents who are most likely to play them. Studies that link violent video games to violent behavior, he says, often fail to account for other factors that can contribute to aggression, such as violence in the home, abuse, and mental illness.

I believe this is because most popular games that are violent are more first person shooter games and less about role playing or abuse. Yet I could be wrong because any situation like that in real life could result in a mental illness such as ptsd.

    3. Previous studies have suggested that the short-term effects of spiking stress hormones–typical of the fight-or-flight response–can rev up players’ sensitivity to slights or provocations, and that playing violent games can lead to longer-term suppression of empathy.

In other words, playing violent video games for a while can harden one emotionally and show less emotion when it comes to playing violent acts in the games

    4. The more long-term gamers were also more likely to fantasize about hitting someone they didn’t like.

I imagine this is due to being angry at the game and ultimately "rage quitting".

    5. learn more mature ways of dealing with conflicts than lashing out

They have become used to the violence and have learned how to deal with it or how to expect it.

    6. found hints that violent video games may set kids up to react in more hostile and violent ways.

They can either react more hostile and aggressive, or they can get used to all the yelling in violent video games/media and get mentally tough.

    7. While there are studies that don’t show a strong influence between violent media and acts of violence, an ever growing body of research does actually support that violent games can make kids act more aggressively in their real-world relationships.

There is no strong correlation between violent games or media and acts of violence but there is a correlation with aggression with those types of media.

    8. violence in virtual reality might play out in real life have led legislators to propose everything from taxing violent video games to proposing age restrictions on who can buy them

Virtual reality has been said to help those in the military to train to become mentally tough. Although, I don't think taxing a game or putting age restrictions will prevent people from buying them since people can easily lie about their age.

    9. inclinations for violent video games, not to mention metal music and goth subculture, were partly to blame for the horrific incident.

In my opinion I don't really think video games, metal music, or goth subculture inclines that your violent or makes you violent. It is what someone likes but then again why does sad music make you sad. Do you listen to the lyrics or the type of music it is?

    1. at a given time and among a certain population, an item has a market value that does not depend on whether one owns it or not

I feel like this would be if a celebrity wore a hat and all the fans loved it I think then would be the time where the value goes up because that specific person wore it even if it were just a plain hat.

    2. Confirmation bias shows up most blatantly in our current political divide, where each side seems unable to allow that the other side is right about anything.

I think this happens a lot more than it should especially in debates because if either side can't take criticism or feedback on their opinions then what's the point of a debate. Its more just arguing that each side is right without looking at the pros and cons.

    3. Present bias shows up not just in experiments, of course, but in the real world.

I think bias is one of the reasons the world is mostly so divided right now because it's kind of like favored opinions and not facts. You have to watch out if experiments have it or even important debates in the real world.

    1. the COVID-19 pandemic led to an “infodemic.”

This can usually mean rumors about how it started and others could add on to it making it seem worse and making everyone feel terrified. What was at first treated like a joke turned into a pandemic.

    2. Countries who relied on science early on produced good results and received international praise.

Could we have gone back to normal quicker if the US just told the public Covid at least existed in the first place?

    3. the reliability of science and information

when it comes to reliable information you can't really know if it is true especially when covid first came around. Rumors will beat any news from official scientists because of gathered fear from the public.
