    1. To understand his duties to his neighbours, & country, and to discharge with competence the functions confided to him by either. To know his rights; to exercise with order & justice those he retains; to choose with discretion the fiduciaries of those he delegates; and to notice their conduct with diligence with candor & judgment.

These particular objectives are ones that I find to be extremely prevalent and achieved at UVA. The Honor Code is so integrated into the culture here that I feel every student understands his or her "duties to his neighbors" in that every one respects each other and their belongings. Furthermore, I think the second objective is highlighted in the student self governance system that UVA prides itself in having because it teaches students how to justly use their rights and advocate for or against one another.

    2. Some good men, and even of respectable information, consider the learned sciences as useless acquirements

This sentence was really interesting to me because today the University, and the majority of other educational institutions, place a high emphasis on the sciences. I have always thought of science as one of the more important of the disciplines due to the fact that it is the basis of our life. I think that science is often associated with innovation and progression, so it is interesting to me that some men disregarded sciences even though innovation and progression are two characteristics they wanted at the University.

    1. beginnings, in short, to be developed by time, as those who come after us shall find expedient. They will be more advanced than we are, in science and in useful arts, and will know best what will suit the circumstances of their day.

I really liked this point because it reminds me of the Constitution's Necessary and Proper Clause. They recognized that relevant and important arts and sciences are going to change over time, and they are entrusting this to "those who come after" them. I like that they are looking into the future of the University and want the University to stay current and mold and grow with the times.

    2. It is therefore greatly to be wished, that preliminary schools, either on private or public establishment, would be distributed in districts thro the state, as preparatory to the entrance of Students into the University.

I think that it is interesting that they were already taking into account that "small boys" will disrupt the ideal education that they want to provide for their students. From it's founding, UVA wanted to establish itself as a well respected and highly academic institution. They are stating they want to prep students from a young age to adequately prepare them for the University, which I find interesting because prepping for college is standard today, but I did not expect it to be standard at the University's founding since college was not available to everyone and still isn't today.
