    1. her family now supports her

Support. To bear all or part of the weight of; hold up. How many us of can say our family and friends are our greatest support system. We all can because of the beautiful life we live. When we don't get our wants, "Oh they don't support me", Yet when we do, "They support me". Yet we don't realize that getting food, water, and a roof over our heads is the greatest support of all. Faith took an egg, traded it for a pencil, and ran to the school to learn. Nobody told her to do it, nobody but her heart. She knew that the future held more than staying at home and getting married. No one stood in her way. When we apply for colleges our parents are equally or happier than us when we selected in our dream school. They see us happy which is why they push to stay that way.

    2. She stole an egg from her mother’s house, went to the market, sold the egg and bought a single pencil. Then she walked five miles, clenching that pencil, trying to enroll. She arrived

The strength she had to do this was amazing. I have heard similar stories, where people steal things and resell them to create profit. Yet in some of those exact stories, the kids are running because such an act would be posed as a crime. The cost of stealing one apple would cost your life. We say now that this isn't fair and it isn't. Her passion to learn is what kept her going and allowed her to steal. For those who had to go through such difficulty are probably looking back and remembering that one mistake gave them the strength to stand in a great position today.

    3. Girls were still going through FGM, still leaving school, still getting married to men older than their fathers and still having children when they’re teenagers

There are so many girls who have grown up in such a background. As we start to work and put forth our best effort towards our career we realize the number of things we are thankful for. But why then? Why not at a young age when we're still teenagers. Girls in different countries get married young and are told to sit at home and take care of children. Boys are sent to camps devoting themselves to a life with weapons and constant harm. Here we are complaining that we can't get our work done because of internet issues. Kids around the world still go through this and this is just a small reminder to be thankful and appreciative for what we have.

    1. tell corporations about it, tell governments we want to see an end to food waste, we do have the power to bring about that change

This is a very good point that's been made but I have a feeling to object. There are so many people across s the world you want to do more to create a safe and healthy environment. "...tell corporation...", exactly what? That the public is wasting food they are providing. That's not in their hands. They make the food and create a business off of it. Once the food is out and selling they don't care what happens to it, they care about what comes in, money. "...tell governments...", that they're the problem? The government, as expected, invest in those shops and restaurants, to help them succeed in businesses. It's the same constant change we are looking for but not asking for. We are looking to end food waste but are asking the wrong people.

    2. As a country gets richer, it invests more and more in getting more and more surplus into its shops and restaurants

A conundrum is equivalent to saying conflict or difficult problem. Yes, our country gets richer by the day, but how much of it is going to the correct surplus of food. Confused? Don't be, I'll explain. It seems like every week there is a new processed food that is put into plastic and sent to be placed on shelves at stores. Theatrically when the government will invest their money to the shops, that money will go to the best selling product, most likely a processed food. Now, how is this a conundrum? Well, the more processed food that is bought the more landfills get occupied with the trash that could be avoided. Had the shops invested in crops or natural food then landfills wouldn't come into factor with money.

    3. bins full of food being locked and then trucked off to landfill sites

It's unfortunate that we see this happen so much. Everyday food is being piled up at landfill sites when that could be prevented. Imagine your friend taking a dinner plate and stacking it up with food. The food that took you time and effort to make. 3 bites in and she's full, well there you see it go in the trash. Had your friend taken the food in small proportions then little to no food would be wasted. Processed food will be around here and there but what about the crops? The more food we waste the more land sites get used for trash. Sooner or later farmers will have to forget about growing crops because there is no land space.

    1. three fundamental questions

These 3 questions really make me reflect on the world and where we are as a whole. It is often forgotten that we aren't the only ones in the world. We go to school and/or work, coming home to see many of the smallest luxuries we may not even think are that special. Every time I drink water or eat food I don't think about the kids in India who are starving. When I go to school I don't think about the women in societies who have been kept away from education. When I go to the doctors I don't think about the families who don't have enough money leaving them sick and ill, knowing there is a medication that can help them. While thinking about these things, I want to see changes in the world, but how can I when I see food, water, education, and healthcare as nothing while people around the world see it as their only means of survival.

    2. promote peaceful and tolerant societies

When it comes to putting our thoughts out in the open for everyone to hear I feel like we often get overly confident about what we think. Learning from others isn't a big bad it only widens your mindset. Even in societies today it is hard to find a topic where two parties won't start quarreling. We have to be so careful with our choice of words because even a simple word like “you” can create a “fire”. Why is it that we can't have those "peaceful and tolerant societies"? This self-reflection leads to many paths.

    3. I invite you to suspend your disbelief for just a moment

This is something that is very important and should be heard/seen by many people. We often get so caught up in our own thoughts that we out up blinders and don't accept anything else but our judgment. I see this a lot with debates. People do research on their claim and evidence that they forget there may be a possible "x" factor. Once that "x" factor is brought out by the opposing party it's like a lightning storm unleashing on the table. I’m not sure about the rest of the world but a lightning storm is a big “no” in my book Listening before speaking is an important lesson to learn and to keep with you at all times because unlike many things this one fact won't cause you any harm.

    4. Do you think the world is going to be a better place next year? In the next decade? Can we end hunger, achieve gender equality, halt climate change, all in the next 15 years?

Let's reflect. Since I could remember I have heard society talk about creating change. We never hear about the changes we want to be made which puts us in doubt. It is often forgotten that the little changes made in the world are the steps leading up to the big change society wants to see in their eyes. Keeping note of that I don't think the world is going to make major changes over the next 15 years. I know this is my doubt talking but I am also keeping track of past events. When we look at world hunger, society has been trying to make sure no kid goes hungry by having fundraisers and events that collect food for those in poverty. When we think back, this has been going on for more than a decade and we haven't made a major change. There are still families out there who go to sleep starving. Fast forward 30 years from that moment, will we actually see change? Global warming is something everyone wants to see a change in. "Global warming is bad, it hurts the environment...". Statements like these are heard everywhere from classrooms to big research laboratories. Yet we still go to school by bus or car. Our parents go to work in their car. Howcome those thoughts don't come up then. If we talk yearly then yeah we can have many successful attempts to making the world a better place, it just takes time. Just like how fundraisers never got much attention 15 years ago, they do now. 15 years from now, there might be hundreds of more fundraisers. It takes time not everything is highspeed. We just need to have a change in our mindset. We shouldn’t constantly be thinking about what we want or what we want to see. We should be thinking about what we can do to create that change for everyone’s betterment. Change is something that needs a lot of patience. It all starts with every individual and their efforts on making a positive atmosphere where people are helping.

    1. Aim to educate

It's always good to keep an understanding that learning things from someone else only helps bring out more of you. Often times in society we see a lesson from someone else as a way of saying "I am better than you". Compassion comes in play for the speaker and the listener. The speaker's choice of words is very crucial and the listener should always be attentive with an open mind. This way through both perspectives there's a mutual understanding of respect. Respect goes hand in hand with compassion. If you want to show respect, you need to show compassion for others. If you want to show compassion, you need to have respect for others.

    2. Listen attentively and intently (with intention to understand) first, and forming an opinion after you fully understand their point of view

In many situations, the opposing will form thoughts in their mind without fully comprehending what their peer is saying. It then becomes a "domino" effect. Where one person will say their thoughts and another will jump in without listening to what their peer is saying. At times like this having compassion is very important because not only will it help you understand someone else's thoughts but it will also show an act of kindness. When it comes to thoroughly listening to other's thoughts on a given topic it's really hard for me to sit still and not interrupt. In order to avoid that I learned to write down notes as the speaker talks and then crossing off any of my thoughts that later on are either justified or just aren't valid.

    3. The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical, and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves.

We are often surrounded by an environment where compassion is taught. When we show our kindness we are often helping many people who rely on the support they get from others to have a happy life. Showing compassion can be as simple as having a comforting attitude when talking to a peer. People have different comfort zones as well, so when we show our compassion we also have to learn to adapt. Not everyone is the same when it comes to responding to an act of kindness. The "...treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves..." reminds me of the Golden Rule which was taught all throughout elementary school. Through that rule we build our relationships with peers and had positive attitudes.
