    1. Iron Spike [@Iron_Spike]. Schrodinger's Asshole: the guy who says awful shit, and decides if he was "only kidding" depending on your reaction. August 2016. URL: https://twitter.com/Iron_Spike/status/764154457340973056 (visited on 2023-11-24).

It feels like Schrodinger's Asshole's have become so much more prominent online in recent years and I think its a consequence of how cynical people have become. Its definitely a way for people to signal their actual beliefs and then attempt to bail out when they face social repercussions for those beliefs.

    1. How do you think about the authenticity of the Tweets that come from Trump himself? Do you think it matters which human typed the Tweet? Does the emotional expression (e.g., anger) of the Tweet change your view of authenticity?

I think authenticity as to who is actually making post on any social media is very important. With Donald Trump any tweet on his account is assumed to be his as it was his personal account, so having knowledge that another person was making tweets under his name is certainly frustrating.

    1. What is user friction? Why you're losing users and how to stop. August 2023. URL: https://www.fullstory.com/user-friction/ (visited on 2023-11-24).

User friction is any barrier that keeps people from staying on your site and is usually some kind of impedance. Things like too many ads, slow loading pages, bugs, and unintuitive design come to mind. User friction is broken into three categories, Emotional friction, Cognitive friction and Interaction friction. Minimizing these are key in good web design.

    1. 8Chan [e25] (now called 8Kun) is an image-sharing bulletin board site that was started in 2013. It has been host to white-supremacist, neo-nazi and other hate content. 8Chan has had trouble finding companies to host its servers and internet registration due to the presence of CSAM, and for being the place where various mass shooters spread their hateful manifestos. 8Chan is also the source and home of the false conspiracy theory QAnon [e26]

In the online world today the presence of both 4-chan and 8-chan has become so much more prevalent. It feels like I see it mentioned almost everywhere, and especially when it comes to violent acts. In most instances of mass shootings or political attacks the perpetrator has had some presence on message boards like this.

    1. Matt Binder. The majority of traffic from Elon Musk's X may have been fake during the Super Bowl, report suggests. February 2024. Section: Tech. URL: https://mashable.com/article/x-twitter-elon-musk-bots-fake-traffic (visited on 2024-03-31).

I find it incredibly funny that up to 76% of all traffic to advertisers on X during the 2024 Superbowl was fake especially because of Elon's claims that Twitter was heavily botted just a few years prior. X in my experience has been one of the most heavily botted platforms, so this data alligns with my experience aswell.

    1. Can you think of an example of pernicious ignorance in social media interaction? What’s something that we might often prefer to overlook when deciding what is important?

An example of pernicious ignorance in social media interaction would be the lack of an option to pick pronouns for yourself on websites. For trans people this makes interacting a lot more welcoming as it keeps people from being misgendered.

    1. TweetDelete - Easily delete your old tweets. URL: https://tweetdelete.net/ (visited on 2023-12-02).

Tweet Delete is a service similar to ones like redact.me which scrub someones past digital footprint. Most of the time these services are used to clean unfavorable post from someones name which is in a weird grey area for me. If someone is going back to delete controversial post that they no longer agree with made several years ago, it is totally understandable. But more often then not it is used by people who still hold those views and simply want to sweep them under the rug and out of sight of the public.

    1. How does allowing bots influence social media sites’ profitability?

Allowing bots on social media platforms positively affects the platforms profitability by driving more engagement. For example, a twitter bot that tracks the flight logs of certain celebrities allows for users to comment on the post and captures eyes. The more post on a platform, the better.

    1. Why do you think the people who Kumail talked with didn’t have answers to his questions?

I personally think that its a way of thought termination so that they don't have to grapple with the responsibility they hold over their creations. In my eyes they are focused on pushing a product and the results of that product are the peoples problem, and that eventually some kind of regulation or protections will be placed on it. Personally I think that they should be active in combating the negative aspects of their product to better everyone.

    1. Nihilism# Sources [b86] [b87] [b88] [b89] There is no right or wrong. Nothing matters. There are many different types of moral nihilism. But they all boil down, one way or another, to the idea that moral reasoning or trying to think about ethics is not real, or is based on a mistake. Even if one is inclined towards nihilism, there is still truth in the anthropological observation that people do deliberate about how to act and how to live, and that these deliberations consistently take the shape of one or more of the ethical frameworks above, considering principles, character, virtues, consequences, responsibilities, and so on. So it is still interesting to look at ethics, even if you like the idea of nihilism.

As some other people have mentioned I understood Nihilism prior to this section as a framework surrounding the idea that nothing matters due to our meaninglessness and mortality. I don't believe that most Nihilist believe that "There is no right or wrong" since some actions can objectively looked at in a right/wrong dynamic (reasonless murder for example), instead I think that they simply don't care about how right or wrong an action is. Generally I disagree with this framework pretty heavily as I think that it is a very dismissive way to tackle the meaning of life and our responsibilities as humans in a shared world.
