    1. feeling into them

Online, is it possible or even desirable to overcome our assumptions about those with whom we interact? Instead of assuming they are like us and share our experiences, imagine always that they are not us, do not share our experiences?

    2. confuse or misuse the concept of “empathy” as simply another or more intense version of “sympathy,”

Can sympathy be a point of access into empathy? Online, how do we perhaps create connections that are qualitatively different in the form of a "shared space" that leads to sympathy, that leads to empathy? To what extent do digital/online spaces hide experiences/identities/conditions of being (disability, race, gender, socio-economic status, etc) that are potential points of sympathy/empathy? Is that empowering, or not? Is the choice to "disclose" empowering, to what extent should a recipient have a say in whether the sympathetic/empathetic relation is formed?
