      It because we want to believe what we want and what we think is "right". People deny the truth if it doesn't confirm their way of thinking.

      I think this is important. Although the author knows he disagrees and it's painful for him to listen to, in the end he ends up being more knowledgeable than before because he chose to listen to the other side. We don't also have to agree but we should listen.
