    1. amongst the presence of technology. Eighty-nine percent of respondents believed there was a degradation, only 5% disagreed, and 6% neither agreed nor disagreed.

Among this article and others I found they both discuss the problem of addiction with technology and social media and what it has to offer.

    2. The survey used a convenience sample, and therefore, cannot be generalized to a greater population

A difference here and between my other sources is that this article contained selected subjects for their study while the other source's study was completely random.

    3. Additionally, the survey used a volunteer sample of self-selected subjects to participate in the study, potentially bringing about biases.

This article contains bias considering subjects in the study weren't random which brings a less accuracy rate for the study for the population as a whole.

    4. found that 78 of 134 students observed alone (58%) were either texting or holding their phones, 21 (16%) were talking on the phone or wearing ear buds, and only 35 students (26%) were not using any technology.

Society has grown to attach themselves to their technology so much that they use it as an excuse to avoid making any social interaction in person.

    5. Almost all students (97%) bring their cell phones or tablets with them every time they leave the house and only one respondent said they rarely do.

It has become social norm today to bring some sort of electronic device with you almost at all times throughout the day.

    6. affects face-to-face interpersonal communication negatively. An overwhelming 92% of respondents believed technology negatively affects face-to-face communication, and only 1% did not. Only 7% of respondents neither agreed nor disagreed.

Even though people have recognized that the substitution of technology opposed to face to face communication is bad and has negative affects they still choose to do it anyway.

    7. Additionally, nearly half of survey respondents (46%) communicate more frequently with friends and family via technology than in person,

I feel though that the older generations are the only ones not reliant on technology to communicate with others, so overtime will the generations now and future ones to come just be completely controlled by their electronics?

    8. Field observations, a survey of 100 Elon students, and an analysis of previously conducted studies provided evidence that the rapid expansion of technology is negatively affecting face-to-face communication.

As technology advances more the face to face communication level and skill consistently is decreasing.

    1. The two authors discovered that due to the pervasive use of the Internet in education, communication and entertainment, there has been a significant decrease in face-to-face interaction among youth.

Like my other sources this article contains the negative sides to how technology is affecting society, while my other sources talked about the negative sides to social media and its affect.

    2. researchers found that conversations in the absence of mobile communication technologies were rated as significantly superior compared with those in the presence of a mobile device

Studies shown that relationships without the use of social media and technology are better off and healthier than relationships that do.

    3. people and 150 adults, Turkle found that children were often times the ones complaining about their parents’ obsession with technology. Turkle discovered that many children believed their parents paid less attention to them than to their smartphones, often times neglecting to interact with them face to face until they had finished responding to emails.

Technology's effect is so negatively impacted on society that studies have shown even parents have less attention span towards their family and more on their electronic devices.

    4. Though much research has shown the negative effects of technology on face-to-face interaction, one study found that cell phone use in public might make individuals more likely to communicate with strangers.

Although there are many negative effects that have shown based on the advances in technology use, one positive is that even though the face to face communication ratio is low the number for interactions with people known and unknown are better.

    5. Abstract Recent technological advancements have had a drastic impact on the way individuals communicate.

Unlike my other sources so far, this one reminds me of the scholarly articles we analyzed in class, this source contains an abstract and discussion which are key parts to expert articles.

    1. The only way to reduce the negative impact of these constraining American Indian mascot representations is to either eliminate them or to create, distribute, and institutionalize a broader array of social representations of American Indians. The latter option would communicate to both natives and nonnatives that, beyond the historically constituted roles as Indian princesses and warrior chiefs, there exist other viable and desirable ways to be American Indian in contemporary mainstream society.

Because of the results after studies shown, solution would be to get rid of them altogether or show a more diverse and positive way of American Indians that don't restrict people's view of themselves and others.

    2. Moreover, the consistent findings with various American Indian mascot images have important implications for the national debate on the use of American Indians as mascots. The studies suggest that American Indian mascots have harmful psychological consequences for the group that is caricaturized by the mascots. This is true whether the American Indian mascot was represented by a caricature, a European American dressed as an American Indian, or an American Indian figure, and whether the mascot represented an American Indian university, a mainstream university, or a professional sports team.

Main idea: Studies taken and proved American Indian mascots do have a negative connotation when it comes to American Indian students and their psych.

    3. SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF SELF AND SOCIAL IDENTITY THEORIESSocial representations are the building blocks from which the self is constructed (Oyserman & Markus, [55]). They provide the structure and the language that people utilize to answer the "who am I" and the "who are we" questions. They also communicate who and what matters in society and what is likely or possible for particular groups by simultaneously providing descriptive and evaluative information. Thus, shared social representations provide a constituting framework for identity (Duveen, [17]; Moya, [48]; Steele, Spencer, & Aronson, [67]).

Social Representations of Self and Social Identity Theories section begins with a source I classify as argumentative. Gives the source of another's statement and opinion to make argument for topic.

    4. Stereotypes are cognitive tools that people use to form impressions of others (Gilbert & Hixon, [24]; Macrae, Milne, & Bodenhausen, [38]). They are persistent features of human discourse, and the media is a powerful source and communicator of this discourse (Blair & Banaji, [ 1]; Davies, Spencer, Quinn, & Gerhardstein, [10]; Devine, [14]; Macrae, Bodenhausen, Milne, Thorn, & Castelli, [37]). Stereotypes are particularly powerful when the target group (i.e., the group represented by the stereotype) is unfamiliar. As Lippman ([36]) wrote in his original definition, stereotypes are "pictures in the head of the world beyond our reach."

Stereotype Accessibility and Threat section contains sources I classify as background information. Gives definitions and general information for argument.

    5. Four studies examined the consequences of American Indian mascots and other prevalent representations of American Indians on aspects of the self-concept for American Indian students.

Article goes into detail about the studies of American Indian mascots effect on American Indian students and their psychological mentality.
