    1. loving you 'til we're 70

The speaker uses the phrase “til’ we’re 70” the average age of death in the UK, where the speaker is from. The use of this diction implies that he will love his partner until they die which emphasizes his everlasting love for her.

    2. Oh baby, we found love right where we are (maybe)And we found love right where we are

The repetition of the phrase “maybe we found love right where we are” in the end of the poem suggests that the speaker is uncertain of how real the love is in his relationship, but in the last line “we found love right where we are” he does not use the word ‘maybe’ anymore this shows he is now sure about the love shared between him and his partner that he would not change a single thing about their relationship now and enjoys every passing second of it. He knows that he has found a person just for him so much that he feels that he was destined to meet her. The confidence he has in his relationship causes me to feel proud of the speaker that he has finally found the one for him. This song causes me to reflect on the signs of a healthy relationship about the dos and don’ts in maintaining a strong bond between you and your significant other.

    3. Baby your smile's forever in my mind and memory

The alliteration of the ‘m’ sound resembles a sound that someone makes when they feel good. This shows that when the speaker sees his partner’s smile, he feels happy as well. This emphasizes how he likes to make her smile which causes me to envy the love that they share with one another. The speaker’s partner is very lucky to have someone like the speaker who always wants the best for them.

    4. I know you will still love me the same

The repetition of the idea that he will slowly become more and more imperfect as the years go by emphasizes that he will not be able to give his partner everything he is able to provide for her now, but he knows even when he is much older, even if he is not famous anymore and can’t play the guitar for her anymore she will look past all these imperfections and love him for who he is. By writing this the speaker shows another important value in a relationship, which is that love is everlasting. This pushes me to reflect on the theme of commitment and that one should be ready to love their partner for eternity no matter what may come their way.

    5. thinking out loudMaybe we found love right where we are

The main phrase “thinking out loud” is repeated throughout the entire song. It means to share one's thoughts so that other people can hear them. This can be seen throughout the poem as the speaker repeats the idea of displaying affection for his partner. “Thinking out loud” happens when people need help working though their thoughts. Likewise for the speaker, he has a lot of pent-up feelings and emotions that prevent him from thinking clearly thus this causes him to think out loud. And the one thought that always becomes apparent to him is that “Maybe we found love right where we are” which shows that the speaker thinks that he has found true meaning of love all because of his partner. This causes me to feel delight for the speaker as he is sure that no matter what doubts he may have about their relationship, he is convinced that he has found his true love. This also pushes me to reflect on the theme of love and that true love will find its way and will remain strong no matter the circumstances or the difficult situations they are put through.

    6. Place your head on my beating heart

The tactile imagery of this phrase shows that the speaker wants his partner to know just how much he loves and appreciates her. The diction of the word “beating heart” also help to show that the speaker lives for his partner as she makes his heart beat faster around her.

    7. Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

The phrase “light of a thousand stars” uses visual imagery to create a beautiful setting, which shows the happy tone in the speaker’s voice as he envisions himself with his partner creating new memories together. The tactile imagery of the word “kiss” is used to emphasize that their love is not one sided and that their love for one another is equally abundant as the word “kiss” means to touch or caress with the lips as a sign of love. This causes me to reflect on the theme of love as it is an amazing thing to experience and the happiness and warmth that comes with it is immeasurable.

    8. Take me into your loving arms

The tactile imagery of this phrase shows that the speaker wants to be embraced by his partner, that he wants to feel loved and comforted. The high word intensity of the word “take me” shows that the speaker is giving himself up to his partner that he is fine to be weak and vulnerable around her. This shows that he is willing to give her the world and will do anything for her. This is also another important value in a relationship that one is willing to share everything about them to be themselves in front of their partner, not to put up a façade. I feel relieved to know that the speaker his not afraid of being himself

    9. Oh me I fall in love with you every single dayAnd I just wanna tell you I am

The use of the absolute word “every” shows that the speaker loves everything about his partner that she makes him feel loved all the time. When the speaker says “tell you I am” he is referring to him being in love with her this repetition of idea shows that he wants to reassure his partner that he appreciates her and everything she does for him. This causes me to envy the speaker as he has a loving relationship with his partner and its not one sided.

    10. Maybe just the touch of a hand

The tactile imagery of “touch of a hand” shows the close intimacy between partners and the warmth that is comes with being in love. The phrase also shows the love language of touch and how it can make someone fall in love just like the speaker. This causes me to reflect on love and how it can find its way to touch someone’s heart with ease.

    11. my heart could still fall as hard at 23

The phrase “fall as hard at 23” shows that his love for her will never fade as he will love her like the 1st time he met her. Additionally, young love is based on nothing but feelings. This implies he is very passionate about his partner. This causes me admire the reader and reflect on how committed someone must be to a relationship to keep it alive.

    12. Will your mouth still remember the taste of my loveWill your eyes still smile from your cheeks

The speaker uses repetition of the words “will your” this highlights his insecurity of his partner not loving him anymore. The speaker then uses personification to describe his happy memories together with his partner in “mouth still remember the taste of my love” and “eyes still smile from your cheeks” this shows that the speaker hopes that his partner will also hold onto these wonderful memories as much as him. This causes me to feel pity for the speaker as he can only hope that his partner loves him the same when they are older.

    13. legs don't work like they used to beforeAnd I can't sweep you off of your feet

The speaker is directing this song towards a loved one which seems to be his partner. In the 1st line he says, “legs don’t work like they used to before” This shows the person the speaker is singing to is growing tired and old as the years go by together with the speaker. The idiom “sweep you off of your feet” is used in a literal sense as the writer is unable to “sweep” his partner “of her feet” as she is now much weaker. The idiom is also used to show that the speaker may not be able to impress her or make her love to him anymore. This causes me to feel sad for the writer as he is unsure that he can still make his partner feel loved when their older.

    1. though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

the words "write it!" in brackets is like a voice in the writer's head telling him to write the words "like disaster" this shows that the writer has some reservations about losing being not hard to master as he himself thinks that it looks like a disaster. This causes me to feel worried for the speaker as he is not too sure about himself as he thinks it is easy to accept his loss but at the same time knows its very hard to move on from. This pushes me to reflect on the theme of vulnerability that it is ok not to be ok, that we dont have to live our life without fearing or being worried about anything.

    2. The art of losing isn’t hard to master;

the repetition of this phrase is repeated throughout the poem. the writer describes 'losing' as an art, this suggests that there are many other arts in life but the writer values this art the most. the phrase "isn't hard to master" shows that the writer is very experienced in the art but being very good at losing means that the writer has been through many tough situations. Through out the poem the things that the writer loses become more severe and scary and in the 2nd last line where the phrase is repeated the tone is a slightly more serious and downcast. This causes me to feel scared for the future as we are faced with more and more loss and pushes me to reflect on theme of acceptance as we have to continue on in life, not to dwell in pain and it can only get better over time

    3. Even losing you (the joking voice, a gestureI love) I shan’t have lied.

The striking word 'you' stands out as the writer has been talking about losing physical objects the whole poem but now he is talking about a specific person. This shows that this person must have had a positive impact on the writer's life and the writer was saddened to lose them. This also shows that people come and go in life, even the ones you love. This causes me to fell pity for the writer as he must have endured a lot of pain to let this person go. this pushes me to reflect on the theme of love as the bond shared between people is stronger than any object and so is the sadness of losing someone as compared to something.

    4. Then practice losing farther, losing faster

The repetition of the word 'losing' is used to highlight that the writer has accepted her loss and is getting better at it. The alliteration of the f sound in farther and faster also shows that over time dealing with lost becomes more manageable as wounds become deeper and more frequent. By saying this the writer gives an illustration of how sad the world is but we still have to pick ourselves up each time. This causes me to feel solemn and pushes me to reflect on the theme of life and that no matter how much trails and tribulations we go through we have to keep pushing on.
