Worsening the differences between software and other areas of teclinology is a personnel problem. Most de- signers in traditional engineering disciplines have been educated to understand the mathematical tools that are available to them. Most programmers cannot even be- gin to use the meager tools that are available to soft- ware engineers.
As software development/programming has grown as a discipline more standardized learning methods have become available, leading to better education outcomes and expected knowledge base.
