It is quite interesting how the author constructed this entire section in five large, overarching areas upon which they are basically creating the founding principles of the university, whether it be redundant or not. However, it is interesting that they left off the rather diversified topic of the Board of Visitors and somehow attached it to the topic of "honorary excitements," more of like an annex than anything else. Each of the five principles impact the students attending the university in important ways, but the Board of Visitors are the ones who directly impact the student and their opportunities at the university through their direct actions with the policies of the university. It is rather odd that such a crucial component as the Board of Visitors, even though it was developed within the report, was folded into the mixture of the report as an after thought that, as they thought, didn't have a large enough importance on the students to constitute an entire section.

The presentation of both of these languages, Italian and German, create a rather interesting dilemma within the framework of UVA. Today, English is the most prominent language that is used for scientific research and discovery across many different disciplines and countries. English is the primary language that was used to disseminate the discovery of the Higgs Boson at CERN, not the German language that was used. Additionally, French is seen today as a language that distinguishes, "models of the finest taste in style and composition," not Italian. In relation to our own curriculum at UVA, we are finally realizing this shift in the focus of our endeavors to a more socially applicable and engaging structure that fosters personal growth. This shift is based on everything that has been learned (the languages covered in the Rockfish Gap Report), but it is focusing on what is happening now (the shift to English and French) while also focusing in on the future of this institution to continue innovating.

Surprisingly, at the current inflation rate, in 2017 dollars, each dormitory only had a budget of $5,890.23, which is incredibly cheap in context for the housing that would house the students who are paying large sums of money to attend Jefferson's university. In comparison, the pavilions, which operated as the classrooms and housing for the professors, their budget is equivalent to $84,146.08 in 2017 dollars. This is more in line with what the budgets should have been, but this is still incredibly small for something of this caliber. Furthermore, the hotels where the dining halls were (in addition to a housekeeper and contracted slaves) had a budget equivalent to $58,902.26, which is still incredibly small for something of this caliber. Interestingly, the raw materials might have only cost this much because, at the time of construction, they had free labor at their disposal to develop these buildings. Seeming as though labor is one of the largest expenditures of modern real estate development, these budgets might be accurate for the bare necessities needed to construct the buildings.

Using reasoning that includes "unexceptional as to healthiness and fertility" to describe a population that has more minorities in the population speaks loudly about the rampant racism that was supported in the 19th century. Today, Charlottesville is the most diverse city of the three-- 33.5% minority compared to Staunton's 17.7% and Lexington's 22.4%. Each of these towns have their own colleges and universities, meaning that people eventually saw that they were suitable for occupation, but it was the strong, anti-minority beliefs that forced them to choose Charlottesville.
