What is the "scope" of distraction? Presumably it is most direct in the classroom when it prevents attention to the instructor, but what about work outside of class? What about in interactions with others? General mindfulness and attentiveness in life?

The way "distance" works is interesting. On one hand, technology enables communication over great physical distances, yet it can also make a relatively short distance appear long. In a way, for better or worse, it unifies the experience based on distance (assuming one has an adequate internet connection).
