    1. And now that I am dead they have set me up here so high that I can see all the ugliness and all the misery of my city,

He did not notice everything that went on outside of his palace

    1. where a good old woman, alone, was spinning with her spindle. This good woman had never heard of the king's proclamation against spindles.

How did she live in a section of the castle and did not know the king's proclamation against spindles?

    2. The princess shall indeed pierce her hand with a spindle; but, instead of dying, she shall only fall into a profound sleep, which shall last a hundred years, at the expiration of which a king's son shall come and awake her."

The fairy that suspected the old fairy to do something bad had countered her curse with instead of dying it would be a deep sleep and she could be saved with the kiss of a king's son.

    3. Talia departed as soon as she heard these words, believing that she was following the commands of her lord, for she greatly longed to see her light and joy, knowing not what was preparing for her

Talia is being tricked here like Snow White continued to be tricked by the Evil Queen.

    4. ut the cook was tender hearted and, seeing these two beautiful golden apples, felt pity and compassion for them, and he carried them home to his wife, and had her hide them.

This was also like Snow White where the henchman could not bring himself to kill Snow White so he let her go and killed a bear to take those lungs instead to trick the Queen.

    5. Then the queen, with a heart of Medea, told the cook to kill them, and to make them into several tasteful dishes for her wretched husband.

This adds to the over all structure we have been learning as well because it is like the Evil Queen in the Snow White fairy tale from last week where she wanted Snow White killed and her lungs taken out so she could eat them. Here the Queen wants to kill the Kings children and serve them to him.

    6. and at all hours he had in his mouth the names of Talia, and of Sun and Moon (those were the two children's names), and when he took his rest, he called either one or other of them.

I believe that this is important to the structure of this fairy tale because it explains how Sun and Moon came to be and why this is called "Sun, Moon and Talia"

    7. He lifted her in his arms, and carried her to a bed, where he gathered the first fruits of love. Leaving her on the bed, he returned to his own kingdom, where, in the pressing business of his realm, he for a time thought no more about this incident.

The King took advantage of Talia, and then just went on about his business like nothing had happened.

    1. hen, as she was so tired, she laid herself down on one of the little beds, but none of them suited her, one was too long, another too short, but at last she found that the seventh one was right, and so she remained in it, said a prayer and went to sleep.

This part of the story reminds me of the Goldilocks story

    1. But she was really far prettier and cleverer than they were; indeed, she was so lovely that she was always called Bella.

They described her as prettier than her siblings

    2. She had been as sad as anyone when misfortune overtook her father, but, soon recovering her natural gaiety, she set to work to make the best of things, to amuse her father and brothers as well as she could, and to try to persuade her sisters to join her in dancing and singing.

Making the best of their situation, and trying to cheer up her family is a form of beauty.

    1. "That's a frightfully big duckling," she said. "He doesn't look the least like the others. Can he really be a turkey baby?

It is interesting that everyone is making a guess as to what the baby is because they know for sure it is not a duck, but the mother strongly believes it is her baby.
