    1. Love and care and respect for one another – I’m an idealist, yes –that must be the work of all humans. That isthe work of parenting (even for non-parents). That is the work of teaching too. I truly, truly hope we neverconvince ourselves that this can, that this should be the work of a machine

I can't put my finger on why this is such a powerful statement. Maybe it's a human conviction to be better than just straight cold procedure, to be creative and dynamic?

    2. keeps the baby entertained and educated in ways that exceed human capacity

Beyond human capacity? Interesting that this "beyond human capacity" point is used to support the smart baby monitor. People have being doing it for thousands of years without this tool.

    3. The “crime of the century” and its trial were covered extensively by newsreels, and the kidnapping of theLindbergh baby shaped Americans’ imagination. It prompted the passage of several laws relating toabduction. Now, I don’t want to overstate the importance of this particular crime in fostering the notion thatbabies need more monitoring, particularly in light of the various reform efforts made in the early twentiethcentury to protect children’s safety and well-being in general. But we can see in the Radio Nurse, I think, atechnological intervention to that end – the embrace of a popular story that children are in danger, that theyneed to be surveilled when they are out of sight for their own protection; and it’s an early embrace too of astory that parenting can and should be mechanized. For the sake of “progress

Playing off the fear of the public. I wonder why abduction was the kick started rather that fear of death in the home? I don't know enough about psychology to make an informed guess.

    4. adding interactions to make it feel moredynamic.

There is such a thing as over stimulation. My head hurts from just reading about all that sensory input.

    5. asily track and store your baby’s feeding, changing andsleeping patterns, and receive notifications to alert you of important reminders in real time. Youcan even find out if your little one is fussy with the cry detector

So I'm definitely developing an attitude towards Aristotle and its users. Yes babies have schedules and might defecate around the same time but this device is not going to make anything about new parenting easier other than accumulating information. Also, I feel the "important reminders" is something that can be accomplished better with paper or digital planners.

    6. New technology replacingand displacing and disrupting older technology is not inevitable,

I concur. However there is a pressure to update a replace. Not sure by who exactly but in my life it feels that way.

    1. he ostensible brokenness of public education, it seems, is notmerely a talking point; it is also an article of faith

Is the author saying that the system is broken or merely stating the belief of those calling for reform?

    2. Money andinfluence may go a long way in setting policy agendas. But in a decentralized andrelatively democratic system, it still takes significant momentum to initiate anysignificant change—particularly the kinds of change that certain reformers areafter when they suggest starting “from scratch.

Money does influence policy decisions. I don't mean to suggest conspiracy theories but it really does.

I would also really like to know/have examples of what changes reformers want.

    3. Facts, it seems, aren’t as durable as myth

Would it be stretching if we related this to "fake news"? Also I appreciate the author using specific language here (myth).

    4. s late as the 20thcentury, for instance, would-be educators generally had little if any student-teaching experience prior to entering classrooms, and they received nopreparation for teaching particular content areas.

Why did this happen? Why wasn't training a priority?

    5. outside the establishment have developed some simple solutions.

Outside perspectives can be helpful or lack understanding. Watching a football game is different from playing a football game.
