    1. What is the difference between the Ego theory and the Bundle theory?

an ego theory is a person's continued existence cannot be explained except as the continued existence of a particular Ego, or subject of experiences and the bundle theory we can’t explain either the unity of consciousness at any time, or the unity of a whole life, by referring to a person. Instead we must claim that there are long series of different mental states and events.

    2. If I was about to divide, I should conclude that neither of the resulting people will be me.

If you are divided then it changes everything because there are two sides of the brain the right and the left and they have different thoughts and functions going on and so it would not be you anymore.

    3. Just as there can be a single memory of just having had several expe-riences, such as hearing a bell strike three times, there can be a single state of awareness both of hearing the fourth striking of this bell, and of seeing, at the same time, ravens flying past the bell-tower.

I never really saw it like this but the example of the bells makes me more curious about our awareness and this idea of having different experiences with the bells ringing.

    4. ‘How many colours can you see?’ With both hands the person writes, ‘Only one’. The words are now changed to read, ‘Which is the only colour that you can see?’

This is really interesting how although there are two colors people still see one but not everyone is seeing the same colors because there are two colors. This also reminds me of the controversial issue going around a couple years ago about a blue and gold dress and how some people were seeing blue and other people were seeing gold.

"Personal identity found all the right and justice of reward and punishment; happiness and misery being that for which every one is concerned for himself, and not mattering what becomes of any substance, not joined to, or affected with that consciousness."

    1. it would make a lot more sense to make a torn decision—that is, to justchoose—than it would to keep on deliberating, or to just stand there until it became clear to you which flavor you wanted.

    2. Why don’t we laugh at a judge who punishes a crimi-nal, just as heartily as we laugh at Basil Fawlty?

We don't laugh at a judge who punishes a criminal because that is a serious crime and serious issue and not something to laugh about. With Basil Fawlty we laugh because he's talking to his car and hitting it instead of finding out what's wrong with it he hasn't harmed an actual human being.

    1. They suggest that conscious-ness may arise from certain oscillations in the cerebral cortex,

We talked about this part of the brain in my neuro class brain and behavior and how the cerebral cortex enables consciousness.

    2. however, an increasing number of neuroscientists, psychologists and philoso-phers have been rejecting the idea that consciousness cannot be studied and are attempting to delve into its secrets.

I completely agree with this because even though one is conscious and aware of their surroundings you cannot really study it because not everyone thinks the same and everyone's brain perceive things differently.
