    1. Your son-in-law is far more fair than black

Very interesting. The whole argument started because Othello is black and therefore is not good for Desdemona. The Duke, a very respected man has disregarded the color of Othello's skin because of all the brave things he has gone through.

    2. thief!

They act like Brabantio's daughter is property. Othello stole her from the grasp of her father. By marrying a woman without her fathers permission he has committed a crime.

    3. My daughter is not for thee; and now, in madness,Being full of supper and distempering draughts,Upon malicious bravery, dost thou comeTo start my quiet.

Roderigo is madly in love with Barbantio's daughter. In fact, he is so in love that he has constantly visited Barbantio's house in order to ask to be with his daughter. Barbantio's anger here shows how much he doesn't like Roderigo. Yet later on he freaks out when he finds out his daughter is truly with Othello and would rather his daughter be with Roderigo.

    1. We may as well assert that because a child has thrived upon milk, that it is never to have meat, or that the first twenty years of our lives is to become a precedent for the next twenty.

This is very interesting as he is using metaphors that were then considered to be drastic that are now things that people actually believe. The idea that a child should drink milk, but never eat meat is actually an argument held by vegetarians. After taking some time to think about this argument that he made I realize that when he is talking about children never having meat he means is the kids were able to grow and thrive just on milk so that is all they should eat is an absurd way of thinking. Paine uses metaphors as a way to help any common person understand his writing to get his point across.

    2. PERHAPS the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not YET sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT,

First off, I really love his style of writing. I'm not really sure why, but the capitalization of words reminds me of how I talk to my friends over text and for some reason made his writing a lot easier to read. I also love this idea that even though you might not flat out say something is right, if you think that it isn't wrong it gives the illusion that it is right. I feel like a lot of people hold this view on their actions that they didn't see them as wrong, so they thought they were right, but when looking back at all the facts, they realize that what they were doing wasn't right either. It's a very complex idea that leads to thinking about if there is truley a right and a wrong.

    1. It is my belief that the thing which we should cultivate in our teachers is more the spirit than the mechanical skill of the scientist; that is, the direction of the preparation should be toward the spirit rather than toward the mechanism.

Coming from a public school, my whole educational career was geared towards being able to master a test. Montessori believes that we should be doing the exact opposite, and focus on the "spirit", or the passion behind learning a subject. While I don't necessarily agree with every aspect of the Montessori method I do agree with this statement. I have always found that I learn best from teachers who are passionate about what they are teaching and encourage the students to be passionate about it too. I do think that the education system is starting to shift towards this idea as more colleges are beginning to be test optional and more elementary institutions are applying a no homework policy. I think it would be very interesting to actually compare schools that don't focus as much on grades as they do on the passion of learning with schools that focus more on creating a passion for learning.

    2. Every great cause is born from repeated failures and from imperfect achievements.

I think that this idea is very interesting. She is taking the idea of independent learning and learning from mistakes and applying it to the bigger picture. This idea is deeply implemented in Montessori schools as the kids learn by doing activities themselves. This line speaks to what will be a positive outcome of the Montessori method.
