Trolling / Troll. April 2009. URL: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/trolling-troll (visited on 2023-12-05).
There are four main trolling types: greifing, flaming, raiding and trolling. It seems like trolling is mostly done to incite a reaction like annoyance or shock, mostly done insensitively and online. It can also be counted as a crime if the consequences of their actions are serious enough.

There is a reason why stereotypes are so tenacious: they work… sort of. Humans are brilliant at finding patterns, and we use pattern recognition to increase the efficiency of our cognitive processing. We also respond to patterns and absorb patterns of speech production and style of dress from the people around us. We do have a tendency to display elements of our history and identity, even if we have never thought about it before. This creates an issue, however, when the stereotype is not apt in some way. This might be because we diverge in some way from the categories that mark us, so the stereotype is inaccurate. Or this might be because the stereotype also encodes value judgments that are unwarranted, and which lead to problems with implicit bias.
A stereotype is something common amongst people who have a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular person or thing. Stereotypes can be helpful when quickly trying to understand someone/something but easily allows for incorrect assumptions. I personally think stereotypes puts pressure for certain things/people which forces them to conform.

Jasper Jackson. Donald Trump 'writes angrier and more negative Twitter posts himself'. The Guardian, August 2016. URL: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/aug/10/donald-trump-twitter-republican-candidate-android-iphone (visited on 2023-11-24).
Interesting how they identified the different sentiments of the tweets to completely different people posting within the same account. People in the past have tried to pretend to be another person but usually telltale signs like different habits and personality let's everyone know they are fake. An example could be a fake designer bag and real designer bag. Looking at the details lets everyone know the difference between real and fake. Metadata is important in order to determine the authenticity of digital artifacts.

As an example of the ethically complicated nature of parasocial relationships, let’s consider the case of Fred Rogers [f36], who hosted a children’s television program from 1968 to 2001. In his television program, Mr. Rogers wanted all children to feel cared for and loved. To do this, he intentionally fostered a parasocial relationship with the children in his audience (he called them his “television friends”):
As someone who watches a lot of vloggers the main appeal of them is that I get to know what's going on in their lives, and basically feel like their friend. It's an easy way to get that false sense of connection. Especially in today's society where loneliness is so pertinent. I think what Mr.Rogers did was in-authentic but he did provide comfort to many kids.

what is the difference between SMS chats and IRC chats and why has SMS gotten more popular even though they both pretty much do the same thing?

In 2006, Aza Raskin [e32] invented infinite scroll, where you can scroll to the bottom of the current results, and new results will get automatically filled in below. Most social media sites now use this, so you can then scroll forever and never hit an obstacle or friction as you endlessly look at social media posts. Aza Raskin regrets [e33] what infinite scroll has done to make it harder for users to break away from looking at social media sites.
Regarding the infinite scroll, I think this issue has gotten worse with the rise of tik tok/other short form content. It's been really easy to quickly scroll and watch videos. Recent studies have shown it's reduced our attention span. But companies benefit from profit and retention.

Elon Musk [@elonmusk]. @PPathole Exactly. I have yet to see *any* analysis that has fake/spam/duplicates at \textless 5%. May 2022. URL: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1525723506805288962 (visited on 2023-11-24).
I think it's kinda funny that Elon Musk wants to debate the issue of how many bots are on Twitter. However I do think it's a useful issue to discuss and address. I also think bots are complicated to classify as some may be more manipulated by humans and others not as much. Its also dependent on how much of an impact they have. If it's positive, then keep it. If it's negative, remove it. Elon Musk seems to think all bots are bad?

Thus, when designers of social media systems make decisions about how data will be saved and what constraints will be put on the data, they are making decisions about who will get a better experience. Based on these decisions, some people will fit naturally into the data system, while others will have to put in extra work to make themselves fit, and others will have to modify themselves or misrepresent themselves to fit into the system.
As a designer myself, I spend a lot of time thinking about how the data should inputted into the system. For example, for our capstone project we're trying to create a psoriasis web application that essentially tracks certain aspects that may affect psoriasis symptoms. One of them tracks period phase. Some of our customers may be menopausal. I think that's why it's important to have different people with different backgrounds to fill in the gaps/potential user issues.

Now imagine we propose letting the platforms wait and add the ability to include alt-text when users are really ready for it. How might a Taoist and a Consequentialist respond?
Taoist - allow for users to add alt text and also allow programmers to add alt text therefore there's a balance in the responsibility
Consequentialist - the programmers are responsible for creating the alt text because they will make the least mistakes, make sure all images are accessible.

Rational Selfishness”: It is rational to seek your own self-interest above all else. Great feats of engineering happen when brilliant people ruthlessly follow their ambition. That is, Do whatever benefits yourself. Altruism is bad.
In essence, egosim is doing actions whether the outcome is positive or negative based on self interest. For example, CEOs engage in acts of alturism by setting up philanthropy efforts. But if you at their other actions, they can tend to be negative ( i.e removing the ethics team to move faster than other competitors ). In the eyes of egoism, this is all done in self-interest. CEO's creating philanthropy efforts to make themselves feel like a good person and make the public like them better. Making decisions that might hurt people because they want to make more money for themselves.

weetDelete - Easily delete your old tweets. URL: https://tweetdelete.net/ (visited on 2023-12-02).
I think this would super useful for celebrities trying to clean up their image online. Or anyone who has a long history on the internet and wants to change their brand image. It could prevent "cancellation".

Antagonistic bots can also be used as a form of political pushback that may be ethically justifiable. For example, the “Gender Pay Gap Bot [c12]” bot on Twitter is connected to a database on gender pay gaps for companies in the UK. Then on International Women’s Day, the bot automatically finds when any of those companies make an official tweet celebrating International Women’s Day and it quote tweets it with the pay gap at that company:
express your emotional reaction to the chapter content? On discord channels I regularly see bots that are used to complete tasks such as react to certain words sent in a channel. I think bots help generate social media discussions and crowds by regularly updating and providing content. In this example, I especially political fueled bots help enforce/push discussions and provide information. Although there is a sense of mistrust with a bot so content it provides might not be immediately believed.
