Psychologist in me wants to say that this is the "operationalisation". Wahrscheinlich ist es ein bisschen picky, aber klar, neurodevelopment ist natürlich noch ganz viel mehr als nur IQ, und IQ lediglich unser "window" into neurodev hier.

Dieser Satz hier würde auch wunderbar an einen "update the evidence base because new exposure contexts" Absatz anknüpfen!

Das könnte auch ein eigener Absatz mit dem Statement "there is a new exposure context that we need to adequately describe" sein. Der Absatz zuvor (oder aktuell die Sätze zuvor) geht ja vor allem darum, dass die aktuelle evidence base bzgl methodische Qualität suboptimal ist.

Ich finde den Satz selbst eigentlich gut – er ist prägnant auf eine Art – aber ich glaube, dass mein Papa mich fragen würde, ob ich es auch ohne "reconsideration" kann, stattdessen mit "reconsider". Nur ein Versuch: "These important limitations motivate [expanding / refining] the existing evidence base."

Ich würde das als topic sentence von einem Absatz erwarten. Jedenfalls verstehe ich das als die zentrale message dieses Absatzes. Evtl. könnte ein Abschnitt auch so beginnen: "It is therefore essential to continue to accurately characterize the exposure-response relationship..."

Oder wenn man es kombinieren will und direkt noch die "nicht ausreichend gute" aktuelle Studienlage miteinbeziehen möchte, könnte der topic sentence auch lauten:

"It is essential to continue to accurately characterize the [Pb-IQ ERF] not only because of [these detrimental effects] but also because of substantive criticism concerning the existing evidence base.

Inhaltlich bewegt es sich ab hier schon klar in Richtung "we should care about the effect of lead on intellectual development in children".

Ich schätze das ist so, weil so frühe Einwirkungen bzw Einwirkungen auf kognitive Fähigkeiten sehr hohe Kosten mit sich tragen. Wahrscheinlich ist das allen klar? Sonst könnte man wohl eine ", because ..." clause einbauen.
