Is the only way to be "active in politics" is participate in organizations and things to that nature? Can't a person be active in politics by, I don't know, voting in both local and national elections.
People who have a personal stake in the outcome of politics often have a better understanding of how power can and should be exercised—not just at the polls, once every four years, but person to person, day in and day out.
Not everyone is educated on every piece of legislation that will effect them. And people who are not directly effected may have a better understand on the legislation, but they don't have the experience to understand the emotion behind it but they can understand how that could change someone's life. I think this quote is very narrow minded.

Is the author, talking about all college educated white men? That is the majority of politicians in office right now, and to say that for ALL these men that politics is game is a very large assumption. Do they have a source that says that is the mindset for these men?
