    1. If students experience their domain as a graded extension of the classroom, then their ownership is over ‘assignments.’ How often do traditional ‘assignments’ misrepresent student interests, passion, and rigor

      More often than not, I have had to write essays/do assignments on topics I have no interest in. Some of my best pieces of work were on topics I was passionate or opinionated about. I put more effort into work that I connect with.

    1. the internet allows a kind of anonymity that can be empowering for some people, problematic for others, and both for many.

      I personally believe the anonymity of the internet poses so many negative consequences that outweigh the positive ones.

I want to see students presenting information at meetings, creating posters to put up around campus, joining an organization that they can participate in and contribute knowledge to, doing local radio and TV shows — and, most excitingly, I want students to find productive ways of going public that I never thought of.

      I tend to forget these other outlets when I think of public information. These can make it so much more fun, and even less intimidating.

    3. The fault is likely mine. Even the greatest teachers can’t expect to get things right if they only try them once or twice, and I would not claim to be among the greatest teachers.

      I respect this self critique, it can be hard to acknowledge our faults and weaknesses sometimes!

    1. And yes, we must be ready to receive their guidance as well.

      I like this, I think people may overlook the fact that there is a lot that can be learned from students too, not just adults/professors/elders

    1. These portfolios can contain text, images, video and audio recordings, giving students opportunities to express themselves in a variety of ways beyond the traditional pen-and-paper test or essay

      Having a variety of medias that students can use to express their thoughts opens the door for more honest and genuine content rather than a forced method.

    2. While some schools are turning to social media monitoring firms to keep an eye on students online, rarely do schools give students the opportunity to demonstrate the good work that they do publicly.

      I never really thought of it this way, that schools or employers are quick to find negative content posted online and penalize you for it, but rarely are we acknowledged for positive or intellectual content.
