    1. Too frequently, teacher technology education focuses primarily on how to use and integrate technology as tools (Kay, 2006), but it fails to explore its inherent and often problematic complexities

This is something that is very important. Often times we are just told to use a certain tool for an assignment, but no one really considers the issues that using this tool could bring. I feel like sometimes I will be using a tool for an assignment and I am not sure how to fully use it. Especially in schools, we need to be considering the problems that these tools could bring or cause.

    1. UDL is a framework for designing learning experiences so students have options for how they learn, what materials they use, and how they demonstrate their learning

I think that this is an important model and we need to be implementing this more in schools. No two children learn the same, so it is important to provide the learning in multiple different ways.

    1. nclusive design is "design that considers the full range of human diversity with respect to ability, language, culture, gender, age, and other forms of human difference."4

This is what we need to start prioritizing. It's crazy to see how many websites and tools are not inclusive.

    1. In educational settings, behaviorism is most closely connected to positive and negative reinforcement, like when a student gets immediate feedback (“you are correct! Great job!”) on their behavior (solving a math equation).

This is so important. I think that it is important that we are using positive reinforcement when it comes to giving feedback. Whenever a teacher would give me positive feedback in high school, it made me more motivated to keep going. Although positive reinforcement is helpful, we also have to remember to use constructive criticism to help students to continue to learn.

    1. The California law also gives users a choice over whether their personal information is shared.

I am surprised that this is just in California, I would have thought that more states would want to follow this

    2. The report also stated that “a significant number” of the internet providers surveyed shared users’ real-time location data with third parties.

This is so concerning to hear. I was not aware that internet providers would be sharing our location data, if anything I thought that they would be the last ones to share our information with third parties

    1. AI is becoming more accessible to students, as mobile devices contain a voice assistant, and many devices found in technology-filled homes are programmed with similar functionality

Something that I have noticed in the past few weeks is how popular Chat GPT is becoming. I'll be sitting in lectures and I see people using this. While I think that it is important that all technology should be accessible, we should be aware that sites like Chat GPT could be giving us false information. If used correctly, I do think it is a helpful source though.

    1. As educators, it is important to understand that asking students to use apps or digital tools for learning activities gives companies the opportunity to collect data on them.

This is scary to think about. I have never thought about how so many websites may have my information simply because I signed up for websites. I feel like this should be especially concerning for younger students, these websites may have access of students' address, school, name, date of birth, etc. This also made me realize that we need to teach more about internet safety and teach about this kind of stuff.

    1. When students are asked to create an account with a third-party e-learning tool, the tool often requires them to disclose the same personal information that higher education institutions are responsible to protect.

I feel like as a college student this happens to me a lot. Professors are always asking us to make accounts to do things likes readings, assignments, etc. Sometimes I don't think that certain websites would have access to things UMass is supposed to be keeping secure

    2. To enhance its flexibility, any e-learning tool that accesses the internet should offer an offline mode to expand access for those who have limited or intermittent connectivity.

This is something that is very important. Sometimes when I am on campus using wifi and then I go off campus and I can't use a certain tool because I am not connected to wifi. I also think that it is important to remember that sometimes people's wifi goes in and out and the tool should be able to sustain that.

    1. it is up to the society to remove barriers so as to improve his or her life.

This is definitely something that teachers can bring into the classroom. I feel like the teacher should be making everything accessibly and removing barriers to improve the education that the students are receiving

    1. Robust tools are compatible with all technologies. Robust tools can be accessed and used on any device and browser, new or old.

This is something that is very important to keep in mind, especially is you are teaching virtually. You want to make sure that all students have access to the tools

    2. Well-designed, understandable tools allow the user to focus their attention on learning rather than navigating or remembering how to navigate the tool.

It definitely important that the tool you are having your student use is easy to use. Sometimes students get stressed that they will not finish an assignment because they do not know how to use the tool

    3. most PDFs are not designed with accessibility in mind, leaving students who use screen readers (i.e., an assistive technology device that conveys on-screen information through speech) unable to access information from a PDF.

This is something that I have never realized. When professors and teachers assign reading most of them use PDFs and I never realized that they may not be accessible for some people

    4. However, when you start the video in class, most students cannot hear it because the audio is too low and the volume of the computer speakers cannot be increased.

This happens a lot to me still in college. many professors will try to show a video in class but the audio does not work and then they do not know what to do for the rest of the class.

    5. A poorly designed user interface, with too many features or an unintelligible layout, may confuse and exhaust users as they are working on their tasks.

I often find that when there are so may features, I tend to get stressed out and I am not sure what feature to use.

    6. The instructions feature text, images, and videos, which are multimodal ways to learn how to use the tool. Using multiple media removes barriers to learning, increases student engagement, and stimulates students’ motivation

Providing multimodal instruction is important as some students learn better when they have an image or video to go off of

    7. When students feel a tool is easy to learn to use and navigate, they are more likely to engage with it, enjoy the learning experience, and focus their learning on developing knowledge and skills.

I feel like this is important to acknowledge. As a teacher, you want to make sure that your students are comfortable with the tools that they are learning. When I was in high school, I would often feel stressed if I was using a tool that I was not aware of because I like like I was going to get everything wrong.

    8. However, it did not go as planned...The students had no idea how to use the tool. The tool had too many features that overwhelmed students rather than supporting their learning. Some of the students could not open the tool on their device or browser.

I feel like a lot of students felt like this during covid. When school switch to completely virtual I feel like everyone was confused. Teachers did not know how to work zoom and all the feature that went along with it. We have to do all assignments online which was a new challenge. It was not anyone's fault as many people did not use technology in school and did not have a lot of background on the tools they were using.

    1. For many teachers the reality has been that what occurs in their classroom has been both private and isolating, a matter between the teacher and his or her students but a task largely tackled alone.

This is something that makes me so upset. Education is already such a hard field as it is and teachers feeling isolated is so hard. I feel like this feeling got even worse throughout the pandemic as teachers were not able to connect with their students face to face. I have been observing in a kindergarten classroom this semester and luckily it seems like this school is very supportive and the teacher does not feel isolated. I hope that when I find a job, I end up at a school where I feel supported.

    1. Did you know that you can search for digital tools, apps, strategies, subject-specific content, and people within social media platforms, such as Facebook at Twitter?

Some people tend to think that social media has no value for things such as research. While you shouldn't base all of your findings on social media, it is a helpful tool to find features.

    2. If you are interested in discovering the newest or most popular digital tools and apps for educators, it’s often easier to explore databases, curated lists, and tool review sites than to conduct a broad Internet search

Whenever I am doing a research paper, I always like to use databases to make sure that I am using the most reliable sources.

    3. If you want to find specific types of files, add “file:” to your search. This will show results that are only a specific kind of file (e.g., “national parks lesson plan file:pdf” will only show PDF files of lesson plans related to national parks).

I did not know this feature existed, I will definitely be using this feature when I become a teacher.

    1. With these challenges, educators must learn to critically reflect upon their PLNs, the information that is exchanged, and the way their PLNs influence them

As someone who wants to be a future educator I am always careful with what I am posting on the internet. If you have a PLN, it is important that you are being careful with what you post and how you present yourself on social media.
