    1. It is as transforming and creative beings that humans, in their permanent relations with reality, produce not only material goods— tangible objects—but also social institutions, ideas, and concepts.

I chose this because this is saying so much. The idea behind it is that humans have the capacity to do so much more for the next generation. People are so focused on the norms of society and trying to make a living that they do not have enough time to transform our universe. This statement is saying that humans should leave behind more untangible things such as ideas and concepts. This relates to her book because in the book, there is an idea about the societal norms and bias in all. People should stop trying to fit so much into this system and make our universe a better place.

    2. Only dialogue, which requires critical thinking, is also capable of generating critical thinking.

I chose to annotate this line because it simply is so true and hits home. I took a critical thinking and writing course last quarter and this statement just hits so true. Having dialogue is most definitely capable of generating critical thinking, as I noticed plenty of within myself last quarter. This statement means that dialogue is a direct output of critical thinking. This relates to her book because it helps you not have pre-biased judgements of people, but instead have an open mind capable of critical thinking.

    3. true dialogue cannot exist unless the dialoguers engage in critical thinking

This line stood out to me because for most of us in our lives, we are always told to think and push further and deeper. Reading that true dialogue cannot exist without critical thinking just completely validates the necessity of critical thinking and its usefulness. This statement simply means that true dialogue and speech exists only with critical thinking. Critical thinking is the key to having true dialogue. I relate this to the book because in the book, incarcerated people are misunderstood and that can simply be because of lack of knowledge and not knowing what it means to think critically. Critical thinking is a skill, that must be developed.
