      This reminds me of a short essay by George Lipsitz called 'The Possessive Investment in Whiteness.' It talks about the construct of whiteness and the process of becoming "white" for European immigrants. I would suggest everyone read it.

      This was written in '47. I find it disturbing that most documents written to address racial prejudice in the United States, decades ago, are still applicable to this day. You could take this sentence out of context and it could have been written yesterday.
