      The urn is frozen in time. almost trapping the lover. But at the same time, the trees will never grow bare and his song will go on forever... Which is better I wonder?

      why would unsung melodies be sweeter? Because they do not end or die with age. They are preserved and last forever. This relates to the central theme of this piece

      Sylvan = inhabitant of forests; he calls the urn a "Sylvian historian" saying it is best fit to tell this story, because it is rusting and has dwelled in the forest long. It understands these woods and these stories.
