      I don't understand this because if we are all speaking the same language why would we need someone to translatse what we are saying.

      I think that this is good and effective because it helps people understand the other dialects of english and how to utiize them in you writing.

      I agree I have found that mnay teachers like to take the focus of writing or english classes to touch on stff that can and should probably be covered in other classes rather then on writing its self.
