    1. a war of stories.

      History is completely based in a war of stories. IE "History is told by the winning side" etc - this is that concept being applied to the modern day public discourse

    2. Maybe all it illustrates is that people may have radically different interpretations of their own stories in different phases of their lives.

      This is accurate for many events in my life.

      This line is terrifying to hear - I completely understand the point being made and its impossible to hear every story but the media controlling what the public needs to hear and what can be unsaid or saved for a later date is a slippery slope.

      Did they go through the same classes, teachers, etc? This is really interesting to see.

    2. From elementary school through college, girls are more disciplined about their schoolwork than boys; they study harder and get better grades.

    1. The world is, as everyone knows, going to hell

      I love this as the opening, it acknowledges that the world is a hot mess before sharing very positive and uplifting information. There's a bit of a culture shock between this paragraph and the remainder of the story.

    2. leading to a day when no mom will again lose 10 children.

      This anecdote was heartbreaking but does a good job to tie the story together and makes me a little more hopeful.

    3. Let’s hit pause on our fears and frustrations

      Is it fair to ask people this? While I agree that the world seems bleak at times there are fears and frustrations that demand attention and can't be paused.

    4. Is it fair to place some of the blame on journalists like this? There are sites for happy stories but a lot of wars, massacres, and famines require attention to be brought on them. There's progress in journalism that focuses on these types of stories as well.
