    1. The women of the South can overthrow this horrible system of oppression and cruelty, licentiousness and wrong. Such appeals to your legislatures would be irresistible, for there is something in the heart of man which will bend under moral suasion.

This was my favorite message and key point as I feel Grimke's was expressing the power women had to create change and persuasion in the area of slavery but also other issues that may have seemed immoral at this time and or in the future as based on her previous words when she stated both present and eternal welfare.

    2. It is even a greater absurdity to suppose a man can be legally born a slave under our free Republican Government

This was a great reference and key point in her appeal as she provides a contradiction and a negative relationship between slavery and the foundation of which America was founded on.

    3. I am going to tell you unwelcome truths, but I mean to speak those truths in love, and remember Solomon says, “faithful are the wounds of a friend.”

Again as previously mentioned she references the fact that she may speak on something in which they do not agree on however, she attempts to also continue to establish a connection and for the women to keep an open mind while hearing her out by referencing the words of Solomon.

    4. Be not afraid then to read my appeal; it is not written in the heat of passion or prejudice, but in that solemn calmness which is the result of conviction and duty.

I love her words here because it basically states the overall construction of the appeal was not of an impulse nature. The appeal was more of an objective foundation as compared to a subjective manner and well thought out and free from bias.

    5. and even when compelled by a strong sense of duty, to break those outward bonds of union which bound us together as members of the same community, and members of the same religious denomination, you were generous enough to give me credit, for sincerity as a Christian, though you believed I had been most strangely deceived.

This was also a key point because it referenced that things may have been "rocky" and they may have been in disagreement about certain issues at some point however, it made reference to the same overall beliefs.

    6. I feel a deep and tender interest in your present and eternal welfare

The language she used here was a great way to start a connection and attempt to establish rapport with the people she wished to addressed because it showed an ongoing concern.

    1. And I wondered greatly at these miracles, and prayed to be informed of a certainty of the meaning thereof—and shortly afterwards, while laboring in the field, I discovered drops of blood on the corn as though it were dew from heaven

This demonstrates how he felt he was really living in his purpose and doing what was told to him as he didn't view the bloodshed as a bad thing he viewed it as something that was suppose to happen. Like a new beginning as dew is typically only seen first thing in the morning.

    2. I had too much sense to be raised, and if I was, I would never be of any use to any one as a slave.

I believe this to speak on his independence as a child and his future as a man to be more than a slave as based on his environment and background.

    1. Therefore let everyone that is out of Christ, now awake and fly from the wrath to come.

Do you feel at this point the congregation was able to understand the concept of a conversion experience?

    2. And now you have an extraordinary opportunity, a day wherein Christ has flung the door of mercy wide open, and stands in the door calling and crying with a loud voice to poor sinners

This is finally where the sermon started to shift towards more happier language in which you see today which was nice to see. I feel like it should have been a better mix throughout to facilitate increasing passion and zeal. Prior to this time the area of religion seemed already pre-determined and presumed in this area. There has to be passion behind purpose. However, Edwards did believe you had to remove sinfulness for individual salvation so I can see why it was created and talked about in the manner it was.

    3. ’tis nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment; ’tis to be ascribed to nothing else, that you did not go to hell the last night; that you was suffered to awake again in this world, after you closed your eyes to sleep: and there is no other reason to be given why you have not dropped into hell since you arose in the morning, but that God’s hand has held you up; there is no other reason to be given why you han’t gone to hell since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship: yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you don’t this very moment drop down into hell.

I feel like this is where most people started fainting and convulsing. This part may not have been on his side well in terms of getting people to be more passionate about their relationship with God. This part either instilled fear or made people start to listen. Extremely expressive and vivid.

    4. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect, over the fire, abhors you

I thought this was extremely dark. I could also imagine myself attempting to pick up a spider (if I was that brave) in disgust. He also used words like, abominable, dismal, wrath, and damnation very frequently to express his view and the need to remove sinfulness and the congregation’s current way of thinking. I feel like his words just created a HUGE form of anxiety.
