    1. Campa taught me that if I am too caught up in outcomes, then I would miss the differences I made through my experiences and journeys with my daughter.

      You can't always focus on where you need to go, you will just bring yourself down. But, if you look back at where you've been and what you've done, it reminds you of your progress and gives you the encouragement to keep going.

    2. He taught me that when you are in motion — your goals, thoughts, actions — you are positively affecting someone.

      Sometimes it can be hard to motivate yourself to do the things you want and need to do, but remembering that any step forward is still a step forward helps you to keep going. Not only will you be benefitting yourself by continuing to go on, but you inspire and bolster those around you.

    1. I know this is vague and not a SMART goal, but I was desperate to feel something.

      People usually say that the best goals need to be specific and other qualities housed in SMART goals, but I think that sometimes goals are bigger than that structured formula. Sometimes, feeling better is enough and will motivate you to find ways to improve.

    2. I came to college and I left my home of 15 years in Cleveland, Ohio to move all the way to Arizona with no family, friends, or real understanding of adult life.

      I feel like I can relate to this, as I came to Tucson pretty much by myself, without any real friends or family nearby, as I am from Colorado.

    1. I was also teaching these things to my group, as well as learning their techniques.

      When working and learning as a part of a group, not only do you become exposed to other people's perspectives and ideas, but you can share your own. This means that everyone can both give and get a lot from each other, allowing everyone to learn many important lessons. This is much more useful than using trial and error or being lost or stuck as an individual.

    1. Rather than finding myself adrift in an ocean of diverse content from my many courses, reflective writing afforded me the ability to find connections between ideas and to identify patterns in what matters to me.

      Constant reflection and attention to the little details that create big waves in someone's life are key to finding a path and passions. This can help broaden my horizons, familiarize me with many facets of the world, and allow me to discover what I really care about.

    1. This is true for other experiences I’ve had — whether it was a class in school or selling candy bars for a school fundraiser.

      There are many ways to learn and gain meaning from life, small events can have big impacts.
