If you could magically change anything about how social media sites operate as businesses, what would it be?
I think if sites didn't sell your information that would be pretty cool

Merriam-Webster. Definition of SOCIALISM. December 2023.
Capitalism vs socialism is such a strong debate and has been for a while. Something I always wonder is why does socialism always get compared to communism?
Google+ tried to mimic much of what Facebook did, but it got little use and never took off (not enough people to benefit from the network effect).
I remember google+ back in tye early 2010s. i never expected it to be anywhere near as big as facebook, but I was always a little surprised at how much it failed, especially because it was being ran by such a large company
German Lopez. The debate over punching white nationalist Richard Spencer in the face, explained. Vox, January 2017. URL: https://www.vox.com/identities/2017/1/26/14369388/richard-spencer-punched-alt-right-trump (visited on 2023-12-10).
I think this is a super boring debate. I don't really think there is anything wrong with punching a nazi or white nationalist. I DON'T think you should just go up and punch every racist person you see, but I think if someone is in your face spewing hate, violence is justified.
Crowd harassment includes all the forms of individual harassment we already mentioned (like bullying, stalking, etc.), but done by a group of people.
This brings me to the concept of "lolcows." Lolcows are people that usually have some sort of mental disability, and are sort of chosen by the internet to be constantly harassed online. Some well known examples of lolcows are Chrischan, Daniel Larson, Worldoftshirts, novaonline, and so many more. These people usually end up being pretty horrible people anyway, which is why they become lolcows in the first place, but I do find it a little wild how there is just a socially accepted harrasment of a certain group of people.

Fold-It [p19] is a game that lets players attempt to fold proteins. At the time, researchers were having trouble getting computers to do this task for complex proteins, so they made a game for humans to try it. Researchers analyzed the best players’ results for their research and were able to publish scientific discoveries based on the contributions of players.
I remember playing a game very similar to this on xbox as a kid
Merriam-Webster. On ‘Doomsurfing’ and ‘Doomscrolling’. 2023. URL: https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/doomsurfing-doomscrolling-words-were-watching (visited on 2023-12-08).
This source made me realize that whenever I see typically negative headlines or posts, it tends to increase my doomscrolling. This especially true on twitter, especially for things like fight videos. Even if the videos are super grusome and hard to watch, I still keep scrolling.
Another form of digital self-harm is through joining toxic negative communities built around tearing each other down and reinforcing a hopeless worldview.
Toxic communities have always been a thing, especially on twitter. But with the fairly recent introduction of being able to join forums called communities, the toxicity has shot up. Many fanbases of mostly content creators and musicians have built such toxic fanbases, and now they have a place to continue spewing toxicity, and encourage each other to do so.
How to ADHD. What is ADHD? July 2020. URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMWtGozn5jU (visited on 2023-12-07).
ADHD is something that has always fascinated me. When I was a kid I used to think I had ADHD because I saw a video talking over the many traits someone who was diagnosed with ADHD had. I fit almost all of these traits. I think I just wanted to be different, but realistically, I'm just someone with a short attention span. I think there's a lot of other people who self diagnose ADHD, but don't end up realzing it really isn't ADHD.
A disability is an ability that a person doesn’t have, but that their society expects them to have.[1] For example:
The US is behind in a lot of categories (housing prices, health insurance, etc.) But one of the things I have heard many times that America does better than almost every other country is their disability accessibility. The amount of things like wheelchair ramps that we have are resources that a lot of other countires dont do as well as the US.

I think this is very surprising, and irresponsible by facebook, especially after all the other data breaches that have happened in the past, and how bad a look they have been for those past companies.
Others Posting Without Permission: Someone may post something about another person without their permission. See in particular: The perils of ‘sharenting’: The parents who share too much [i21]
A question I have is how is this regulated? Is this regulated at all? Is there anything that can be done about people posting pictures of other people without their consent?
Kurt Wagner. This is how Facebook collects data on you even if you don’t have an account. Vox, April 2018. URL
I think it's a bit scary how easily facebook can collect yoir data, especially if you aren't even on the platform. How is this even legal

I was really surprised to see that google thinks im between 45 and 54 years old, I wonder what made them think I was this old
Is It Funny or Offensive? Comedian Impersonates FBI on Twitter, Makes MLK Assassination Joke. January 2020. URL: https://isitfunnyoroffensive.com/comedian-impersonates-fbi-on-twitter-makes-mlk-assassination-joke/ (visited on 2023-12-05).
This article I thought was really interesting. To me, it seems like a lot of people misunderstood the joke, and thought MLK was the butt of the joke, when he was actually poking fun at the FBI.
What do you think is the best way to deal with trolling?
I think the best way to respond to trolling is either troll back and play along, or just completely ignore it.

Where do you see parasocial relationships on social media?
I see a lot of parasocial relationships when it comes to streamers online. Vieers tend to keeping up with these streamers lives so much, that they think they are their actual friends, and the streamers will have to speak out against the prasocial viewers.
How do you think about the relationship between social media and “real life”?
I think that there is a big difference. What most people put on social media is a tiny sliver of their real life. But since it's all most people see, they think they live their entire life like that, which causes unhealthy comparisons.
Something is right or wrong because God(s) said so.
This is a common debate I see online. I see a lot of people saying without religion, there are no morals. It seems a lot of people's motivations to do good are almost entirely based in religion, and think that is the only way to be a good person. This is very confusing to be because although I always knew religion was a motivator for people to be a good person, but I didn't realise how for how many people it was the main and only reason.
