    1. The women of the South can overthrow this horrible system of oppression and cruelty, licentiousness and wrong. Such appeals to your legislatures would be irresistible, for there is something in the heart of man which will bend under moral suasion. There is a swift witness for truth in his bosom, which will respond to truth when it is uttered with calmness and dignity.

This explains in what I truly believe in. I believe that truth will always win and prevail. People want to do good and what's right, but because of unfortunate circumstances and bad upbringings, influences people into committing wrongful acts. As I mention, because humans originally want to do good, and she makes it a point that truth will always be strength and that "the heart of man which will bend under moral suasion."

    2. We must come back to the good old doctrine of our fore fathers who declared to the world, “this self evident truth that all men are created equal, and that they have certain inalienable rights among which are, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It is even a greater absurdity to suppose a man can be legally born a slave under our free Republican Government, than under the petty despotisms of barbarian Africa. If then, we have no right to enslave an African, surely we can have none to enslave an American; if a self evident truth that all men every where and of every color are born equal, and have an inalienable right to liberty, then it is equally true that no man can be born a slave, and no man can ever rightfully be reduced to involuntary bondage and held as a slave, however fair may be the claim of his master or mistress through wills and title-deeds….

She made a really good point and made perfect sense in the following passage. Under the doctrine of the forefathers, it states how all man are created equal. Because we "all" are "born" equal, it doesn't matter what skin color or where you're born. Being a human being gives the right to have inalienable rights to liberty.

    3. But there are other Christian women scattered over the Southern States, a very large number of whom have never seen me, and never heard my name, and who feel no interest whatever in me. ‘But I feel an interest in you, as branches of the same vine from whose root I daily draw the principle of spiritual vitality—Yes! Sisters in Christ I feel an interest in you, and often has the secret prayer arisen on your behalf, Lord “open thou their eyes that they may see wondrous things out of thy Law

I really like how she expressed this as it plants in a sense of unity amongst the people. As a religious woman of Christ, she brings people together through mentioning how they are from the same Vine. So even if they have never met, they are still one spiritually.

    1. After this I rejoiced greatly, and gave thanks to God. And on the 12th of May, 1828, I heard a loud noise in the heavens, and the Spirit instantly appeared to me and said the Serpent was loosened, and Christ had laid down the yoke he had borne for the sins of men, and that I should take it on and fight against the Serpent, for the time was fast approaching when the first should be last and the last should be first.

His visions were from God and he believed he was destined for something great. It was a sign for Nat Turner to rise up and take action on rebelling.

    2. Knowing the influence I had obtained over the minds of my fellow servants, (not by the means of conjuring and such like tricks—for to them I always spoke of such things with contempt) but by the communion of the Spirit whose revelations I often communicated to them, and they believed and said my wisdom came from God. I now began to prepare them for my purpose, by telling them something was about to happen that would terminate in fulfilling the great promise that had been made to me

He wanted to make sure that he wasn't manipulating the people but he was someone that actually had an influence and was looked up to. He always goes back to God and how he was led by the spirit.

    3. The Spirit that spoke to the prophets in former days—and I was greatly astonished, and for two years prayed continually, whenever my duty would permit—and then again I had the same revelation, which fully confirmed me in the impression that I was ordained for some great purpose in the hands of the Almighty.

This shows how the man was led by his own thinking and interpretation using the Bible as a motive. He gave the prophets in the Bible as an example to show how it was relevant to Nat Turner as well. He believed that he was like those prophets who received a revelation from God.

    4. “Seek ye the kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be added unto you.” I reflected much on this passage, and prayed daily for light on this subject—As I was praying one day at my plough, the spirit spoke to me, saying “Seek ye the kingdom of Heaven and all things shall be added unto you.”

This beginning was interesting as Nat Turner started off with a Biblical quote from a verse. It was quite ironic that someone who led a rebellion had a bible verse as a motive to carry out the actions that he did

    1. How dreadful is the state of those that are daily and hourly in danger of this great wrath, and infinite misery! But this is the dismal case of every soul in this congregation, that has not been born again, however moral and strict, sober and religious they may otherwise be. Oh that you would consider it, whether you be young or old. There is reason to think, that there are many in this congregation now hearing this discourse, that will actually be the subjects of this very misery to all eternity. We know not who they are, or in what seats they sit, or what thoughts they now have: it may be they are now at ease, and hear all these things without much disturbance, and are now flattering themselves that they are not the persons, promising themselves that they shall escape. If we knew that there was one person, and but one, in the whole congregation that was to be the subject of this misery, what an awful thing would it be to think of! If we knew who it was, what an awful sight would it be to see such a person! How might all the rest of the congregation lift up a lamentable and bitter cry over him! But alas! instead of one, how many is it likely will remember this discourse in hell? And it would be a wonder if some that are now present, should not be in hell in a very short time, before this year is out. And it would be no wonder if some person that now sits here in some seat of this meeting house in health, and quiet and secure, should be there before tomorrow morning. Those of you that finally continue in a natural condition, that shall keep out of hell longest, will be there in a little time! your damnation don’t slumber; it will come swiftly, and in all probability very suddenly upon many of you. You have reason to wonder, that you are not already in hell. ‘Tis doubtless the case of some that heretofore you have seen and known, that never deserved hell more than you, and that heretofore appeared as likely to have been now alive as you: their case is past all hope; they are crying in extreme misery and perfect despair; but here you are in the land of the living, and in the house of God, and have an opportunity to obtain salvation. What would not those poor damned, hopeless souls give for one day’s such opportunity as you now enjoy!

This is such a strong statement towards the congregation. Through this passage, the congregation could probably get a glimpse and feel it in their bones of the regret and eternal despair one might have to endure for eternity if they don't wake up from their slumbers and live a righteous life as God commands. Even the last sentence of those that have already been damned who would long for even a short moment and opportunity that the current people that are alive are currently enjoying really plants in fear of hell. Yet he goes on how many people still would be judged to hell.

    2. Consider this, you that are here present, that yet remain in an unregenerate state. That God will execute the fierceness of his anger, implies that he will inflict wrath without any pity… you will be a vessel of wrath fitted to destruction; and there will be no other use of this vessel but only to be filled full of wrath: God will be so far from pitying you when you cry to him, that ’tis said he will only laugh and mock (Proverbs 1:25-32)…

Jonathan Edwards mentions scripture to explain more of God's heart and the frustration that he feels towards mankind. He is forewarning and judging us that he won't be there to save us once we realize that it's too late and there's no way back.

    3. O sinner! Consider the fearful danger you are in: ’tis a great furnace of wrath, a wide and bottomless pit, full of the fire of wrath, that you are held over in the hand of that God, whose wrath is provoked and incensed as much against you as against many of the damned in hell; you hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it, and ready every moment to singe it, and burn it asunder; and you have no interest in any mediator, and nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you ever have done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one moment…

Our human lives hang by a thin thread. As with life, everything is uncertain and we don't know when our time is up. We just go through life almost blinded, like rolling a dice relying on chance, not knowing the dangers of hell that awaits people. It is only by the mediator, Jesus Christ where our sins can be forgiven but people are not interested to be saved at all.

    4. You probably are not sensible of this; you find you are kept out of hell, but don’t see the hand of God in it, but look at other things, as the good state of your bodily constitution, your care of your own life, and the means you use for your own preservation. But indeed these things are nothing; if God should withdraw his hand, they would avail no more to keep you from falling, than the thin air to hold up a person that is suspended in it….

Jonathan Edwards was trying to explain how all humans in the world lives a hopeless life. We are born as a sinner and destined for death due to sin. We go about our own busy lives so focused on ourselves and what we have to do but don't realize that it all means nothing. We as people tend to lose sight of the big picture and our rude awakening.
