YouTube gets new AI-powered ads that let brands target special cultural moments

YouTube gets new AI-powered ads that let brands target special cultural moments
Not only is Youtube utilizing AI, but brands advertised on their platform are producing AI-driven content.
YouTube may want to tread carefully here considering its algorithm's already poor reputation for serving up problematic videos.
This could be a potential problem for Youtube and AI bias!
YouTube is trialling two new generative AI text tools amongst a small number of its Premium subscribers.
I wonder if this new feature would've been more successful if opened up to everyone and not just Youtube Premium users
Just get the gist of the dumpster fire.
"dumpster fire" is an interesting way to describe this new feature...
YouTube’s latest AI experiments includes a new chatbot that’s designed to give you more information about a video you’re watching.
i feel like every app is integrating AI into their platforms now. With a huge video platform like Youtube, I wonder if this will trend into other video platforms like Tiktok.
It can also quiz you on a topic if you’re watching an educational video.
this is pretty cool! i've heard about AI summarizing before but AI quizzing is very new, I feel like it'd be useful!
As well as the new conversational AI tool, YouTube is also experimenting with an AI summary feature for video comments.
Sounds very time-saving!
With AI cloning the voices of actors, however, “We’ve lost control over what our voice could possibly say.”
This is very true and also very scary! I couldn't imagine being a celebrity right now living with the fact that my voice is somewhere cloned on the internet and someone can use it to say anything without my permission.
Following the resolution of the WGA strike, SAG-AFTRA reached a standstill with the AMPTP in their negotiations, with the use of AI being one issue that continues to divide the two groups.
AI is definitely changing a bunch of industries for better or worse, especially the Hollywood entertainment industry.
The use of artificial intelligence remains a hotly debated topic in Hollywood, as industry workers worry if their talent will be replaced by technology, while others predict AI will only enhance what Hollywood creatives are capable of.
I think as AI becomes more capable, it has the potential to make people question whether or not it's a robot or a human.
Szwed noted that Reczek’s sons “were very supportive.”
Glad that they talked to Reczek's family before replication or else that would've been very weird and disrespectful.
The Polish video game developer CD Projekt SA has used artificial intelligence to replicate the voice of the late Polish actor Miłogost Reczek, who died in 2021. His voice will be simulated in “Phantom Liberty,” an extension of the dystopian video game series “Cyberpunk 2077.”
Is this...legal? Ethical???
AI Used to Resurrect Video Game Voice Actor in ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Universe
When first reading this title, I found it pretty creepy and scary that this is even possible! It reminds me of the holograms of artists like Tupac I've seen used in concerts.
Microsoft is also planning to bring its Copilot system to the consumer version of Microsoft 365 at some point next year. Given how many students and consumers use OneNote, you can imagine it will be one of the first apps to get Copilot on the consumer side, too. OneDrive is also getting a big overhaul with Copilot integration in the future.
Sounds like Copilot is becoming Microsoft 365's Pilot!
It’s a high price to pay for AI features
Definitely lol
charge $30 per month per user for access to Copilot once it launches
Considering this is so new and AI like ChatGPT is out and still costing less than this ($20), I personally think this is pretty pricey.
A small number of Microsoft 365 Enterprise customers have been testing the new Copilot system over the past six months in apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Personally, I use Google apps more so this is definitely news to me! It sounds like they're adding this to most if not all of the Microsoft Suite apps.
Copilot in OneNote will be able to generate lists, draft plans, rewrite your notes, and much more.
This is the first time I've heard of an AI doing tasks like these so this is very cool! "Much more" scares me a little bit though because what more can this AI do? What more will AI in general be able to do in the future? Will it replace all human tasks?
Copilot
Very clever name considering AI is supposed to be a helpful tool in Microsoft's OneNote
As more AI generative tools for photos become more accessible to users, like Google Pixel 8’s Magic Editor, we were already at the stage of wondering, What is a photo? Now, Adobe’s AI video-manipulating Fast Fill could bring that same ability to more people soon, and we will have to ask: What is a video?
More mentions of Google being compared to Adobe, very interesting.
Fast Fill works similarly to Google’s Magic Editor, where you can move around people or objects — but with video instead of just still photos.
Is Adobe trying to compete with Google here?
It’s one of several new, wild, experimental AI features announced today at the company’s MAX conference.
"One of several" is correct! Along with what I've read with my other 2 articles for my blog, this definitely supports my argument of AI being on the rise in new media.
manipulation
When I see this word, I assumed this article would be speaking negatively about AI. After reading the article, it seems like this new feature is a positive thing for Adobe. It just has me thinking, why would they choose this word to describe 'Fast Fill'? Was the title a way to grab the attention of those who don't like AI?
It can be tough to tell at a glance which products and sellers are trustworthy, users say.
While consumer awareness is important, apps like Tiktok need to incorporate better moderation and security as well to stop online scamming.
For someone studying new media (like me), this article is great as it sheds light on a growing issue within the new media environment. Online shopping scams are a big challenge in the digital world and it's important to know about especially with an influential app like Tiktok.
TikTok Shop is a dream for creators. It’s putting shoppers at risk.
This emphasizes the point of social media being both a gift and a curse. While Tiktok's new shopping platform provides a great opportunity for creators and businesses to sell their products, it also opens the door for scammers to take advantage of customers.
Carter credited “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which includes a celebratory procession of music and dance after the death of King T’Challa, with helping her prepare for her mother’s death. In the film, Carter employed 3-D printing technology to create the halo-like crown worn by Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) and found inspiration in African Indigenous tribes to design the clothing. Carter also thanked the director Ryan Coogler, and one of the film’s producers, Nate Moore, for their vision. “Together, we are reshaping how culture is represented.”
Richardson uses cultural vocabulary throughout the article in an experienced manner to support/reiterate Carter's speech.
As the sole winner among the film’s five nominations, Carter paid tribute to her mother, who died at age 101 last week, and asked the actor Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa in the original film and died in 2020, to watch over the matriarch.
Richardson elaborates on Carter's statement of her mother passing during her speech. While some may already have known this info, others may have not and the author provides context.
Carter made history as the first Black woman to win an Oscar for costume design in 2019; she had received earlier nominations for Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X” and Steven Spielberg’s “Amistad.” Denzel Washington was the first Black man to win two Oscars — one in 1990 for “Glory” and another in 2002 for “Training Day.”
Richardson makes a similar cultural connection to Denzel Washington and his success for Black men. Not sure whether the author was comparing the two or not, but if anything was seen as unneeded in this article, it's this due to nothing following it/stating its relevance.
The costume designer won an Academy Award for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” adding to the history-making Oscar she won for the original “Black Panther” in 2019.
The author supports the title's claim here by confirming Ruth E. Carter's occupation or ability to win the Oscars. It also makes clear to the reader what two Oscars she won.
Ruth E. Carter Becomes First Black Woman to Win Two Oscars
I believe this article title shows little to no bias as it clearly states what factually happened at the Oscars. I say little only because writers of other magazines do have the ability to spin this event (even if positive) into something negative/not true.
Kalia Richardson is a culture reporter and member of the 2022-2023 New York Times fellowship class.
I was going to look up the author to get a sense of whose work I was reading, but I quickly realized that I didn't need to because this article educates the reader about the author and gives them a sense of their point of view. As a Black woman who has written numerous stories on cultural excellence, Richardson speaks positively and intelligently about Carter.
