    1. heavily usedtechnological artifacts such as the search engine have become such anormative part of our experience with digital technology and computers thatthey socialize us into believing that these artifacts must therefore also provideaccess to credible, accurate information that is depoliticized and neutral

My goodness, no. So much information out in the world, I think especially now as we've had the internet much longer, is false. It can be really hard to know what is real from what is fake. So many people are quick to click the first link, assume it's true, and proceed to spread false information unknowingly to their families, friends, and loved ones.

    2. filled with porn when I looked for “black girls.

I am somewhat relieved to know that when I searched up black girls now, 11 years from when she describes, there were no porn links at all. However, I cannot imagine how awful it would be to be a person of colour, maybe want to look up some pictures of people like you, and be faced with porn and sexualization.

    3. The ads are shocking because they show just how far we still haveto go to achieve gender equality

I will not stop yelling how far we still have to go for gender equality. It is literally absurd how not long ago the hatred and pain everyone but the white cisgender man went through. As much as we would like to think things have gotten better, and they definitely have, there is still so much work that needs to be done. The digital humanity space has made this growth easier but also difficult in some ways too. There is still much hate in the world and it really hurts to see.

    1. Perhaps we should inhabit, rather than eradicate, the status of bugs––even of viruses—in the system. Perhaps there are different systems and anti-systems to be found

One shouldn't be afraid of change because something beautiful could come from it. Sure, no one wants a bug or virus in your system, but how else will you push the limits of your system and grow from it?

    2. Inclusivity is important to DH practitioners in the humanities computing tradition.

As expansive as a place as the internet is, inclusivity should have been mandatory from the beginning. There shouldn't be exclusion and shaming of other groups that don't align with your own.

    1. Inrelation to literature in particular, it could be said that DH has mostly focused onreading digital texts as data but has failed to explore the literary value of those texts thatwere born digital in the first place.

I feel like this could highlight a lot of different struggles I've faced with people in my life in regards to perspective. I believe it is important to look at things with a variety of angles, not just one approach. To look at something as simply data with deeper reflection isn't enough to me, just as no regard to any data over abstract things isn't ideal to me, either. There needs to be a balance, in every aspect of life.

    2. Making things as a way of doing theoretical work pushes thehorizons of one’s understanding

I often think we can get stuck in our own minds or simply say and not do. Making things I believe will always push yourself and encourage growth.

    1. A critical digital humanities continues to map and critiquethe use of the digital but is attentive to questions of power, domination, myth and exploitation.

What I think I love about digital humanities is that it will always shift in some form. You can learn the foundations of the course, but the ways in which that could be approached could change as technology changes. I love that this course encourages reflection and critiques about itself.

    2. how do we make the invisible becomevisible in the study of software?

I think as someone who knew close to nothing about computers, digital humanities, and software, everything was invisible knowledge to me. Looking at the parts to everything we need to make visible for studying is a good question to ask.

    1. Games are already being used as storytelling vehicles and are increas-ingly seen as such

I wanted to share a content creator that looks at the psychology behind video games. I love his world and just shows you the depth behind video games. It's not just data and things for bland entertainment. https://www.youtube.com/c/DarylTalksGames

    2. itwould be as foolish to consider contemporary storytelling without dwell-ing on gaming as to describe storytelling without movies, the spoken word,or print.

Some of my favourite stories are from games, such as Breath of the Wild and Genshin Impact. I think gaming is wonderful in that you get to be a part of the story and interact with the world. I know a lot of other generations find gaming to be pointless or even childish, but games are nothing to shame or push aside.

    1. it’s vital to realize that people tell stories with nearlyevery new piece of communication technology we invent.

It's wonderful how creative we are as beings. Think of the stone paintings you associate with the cavemen times. We will find a way to create with every resource we have access to. I think the digital landscape has made creating things a lot easier to do, with writing programs like Microsoft Word or art programs both free and feed.

    2. Data are cold, while stories arewarm. Data lack intrinsic meaning, while stories are all about meaning

Data can certainly be cold, just as a story may be flat and uneventful. It's all about how something is presented. How it is written or presented may give it life and it may not longer be cold, whether or not it's simply data on a screen.

    3. An account of an alien invasion delivered through multiple Twitter accounts:•an updated War of the Worlds hoax, tweet by tweet

I will be honest, I never considered a tweet thread to be a story before. That's such an interesting and unique way of looking at it! I love the idea that there are stories everywhere we look if we just looked at it in that way. That's beautiful.

    1. We’ve become so used to ignorance at thisscale, and so good at blu$ng our way around it, that we tend to overestimate ouractual knowledge.6

I really enjoy how this was written. I think a lot of people in this world overestimate what they actually know and the knowledge they have accessible to themselves.

    2. Much of thisboils down to gatekeeping, and it is rarely informed by a clear understanding ofthe thing that is to be kept out.

I personally find it interesting that people are gatekeeping this type of advancement. I understand that people love to be in competition with one another, but this technology has great capabilities to help us look through various information quickly. Why should we gatekeep us a thing, big data or not?

    1. Each book has a number of standard metadata on the covers and inside. This includes:

I was surprised to see a book written down, but it makes sense that it would contain metadata considering that's where a lot of our information started and came from. It definitely makes me reflect on the things I've engaged with and how the metadata was presented!

    1. Omeka.org (which forms the basis of the site), or you could use Omeka.net if you aren’t so picky about the way the site looks and acts

I assume Omeka allows you to truly create a website, with coding and whatnot, but I have found that I am struggling to use it. I will challenge myself though to continue forward even though it's tricky.

    1. new digital tools may be transforming these methods and this basicwork. Is the very computer upon which humanists rely so heavily still atool, something akin to their medieval writing tablets? Or has it becomean environment, its screen no longer a blank sheet on which to writebut a window or portal into the entire digital realm, which acts uponthe humanist as much as or more than she acts upon it?

The digital landscape has provided a new way of doing things. It can do so many different things, like writing, researching, and art. I would argue that the way someone views their computer will vary person to person. I will view my own computer as a tool to help me with school, while my iPad is an environment I go to to create art and stories. It can be a whole different world depending on how someone views something. That's why the digital landscape is so interesting in regards to how we use it.

    1. DH is most powerful as adisruptive political force that has the potential to reshape fundamental aspects ofacademic practice.

The digital space truly has a huge influence on our world and the things that can come from it. This particularly reminded me of how the social media platform, Reddit, was able to manipulate the Stock Market by simply coming together on the platform. It shows you the power DH can have in all aspects of life, including the academic space.
