Why did this punishment have to happen?

On July 25, the Serbian government answered the ultimatum in a manner unacceptable to Austria-Hungary, which three days later declared war on Serbia. Thus began World War I.
Austria-Hungary did not take exception to their response and it began World War 1 which was an interesting war.

This document shows double dating, because Serbia was still using the old Julian calendar.
This is interesting. I always wondered why some of the dates were different then corrected while reading these documents, now I understand that there were different calendars.
