I was wondering earlier today if a possible cause if this could be a change in research funding, which has become more project-based and often more focusing on societal impact (or so is my perception) [0]. Chris Evelo argued [1] that if that to be true, one would expect words like important, valuable, and beneficial. Have you considered including words that could hint at societal impact? Do you even have data on such words too? Does that show different patterns than the positive words you measured?
