The concerns and warnings about 'dual use' are not justified. There is no evidence that dual use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes poses any additional risks, on the contrary. The available evidence suggests that dual use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes has the same or better effect than dual use of cigarettes and nicotine replacement treatments (NRT) that is the basis for licensing NRT for 'cut down to quit' use. It reduces smoke intake (and therefore toxin intake - even of chemicals present in both products, such as acrolein); and increases the chance of quitting smoking later on. The evidence we have up to now leaves no doubt that smokers should be informed truthfully about the risk differential and encouraged to switch to vaping.
