nother reason for the appeal of charismatic Christianity was itscongruity with contemporary cultural developments. When it firstemerged in the 1960s, it appeared to be a Christianised version of thenew youth culture of the day, encouraging casual dress and uninhib-ited behaviour. There was a huge outpouring of charismatic music, much of it folk or rock in style. Charismatic worship, with its tes-timonies of personal experience and words of prophecy, was well at-tuned to the needs of a new generation which was used to interactivepresentations rather than a single extended discourse.
