Haile Mother of Mankind, whose fruitful Womb Shall fill the World more numerous with thy Sons
It feels weird that Raphael is sent here to prevent Adam from falling, yet already seems to know that Eve will live outside of paradise and have many babies.

Not equal, as thir sex not equal seemd; For contemplation hee and valour formd, For softness shee and sweet attractive Grace, Hee for God only, shee for God in him:
I wonder if Satan seduced Eve and not Adam because he felt similarly inferior to Good as Eve was to Adam?

I come no enemie, but to set free From out this dark and dismal house of pain,
Maybe Satan did not intend to be evil. Here he spontaneously wishes to save someone else, potentially everyone, from pain and darkness. Maybe Satans only goal is freedom, and he is so strong that he is willing to risk Heaven for it.

Author
Does the word "Author" suggest that all evil is of intellectual origin?

with what eyes could we Stand in his presence humble, and receive [ 240 ] Strict Laws impos'd, to celebrate his Throne With warbl'd Hymns, and to his Godhead sing Forc't Halleluiah's; while he Lordly sits Our envied Sovran, and his Altar breathes Ambrosial Odours and Ambrosial Flowers, [ 245 ] Our servile offerings. This must be our task In Heav'n, this our delight
deliciously bitter and vitriolic memory of their unhappy state in Heaven

For Spirits when they pleaseCan either Sex assume, or both; so softAnd uncompounded is thir Essence pure, [ 425 ]Not ti'd or manacl'd with joynt or limb,Nor founded on the brittle strength of bones,Like cumbrous flesh; but in what shape they chooseDilated or condens't, bright or obscure,Can execute thir aerie purposes, [ 430 ]
This reminds me of Silmarillion by Tolkien, where beings similar to angels also have no predetermined gender.

O Spirit, that dost prefer Before all Temples th' upright heart and pure, Instruct me, for Thou know'st; Thou from the first Wast present, and with mighty wings outspread [ 20 ] Dove-like satst brooding on the vast Abyss And mad'st it pregnant: What in me is dark Illumin, what is low raise and support
This part parallesls the beginning of Genesis:
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
