There’s also a link towards the bottom of the post that leads to the application for people to sign up if anyone would like to become a volunteer. While developing this message, I hoped to reach people who have a passion for helping others with their mental health. I made sure to describe the organization that I volunteer for as well as the impact that it has. 1. Leaders have an opportunity to incite change by integrating the diverse viewpoints that surround them with their ideals, triggering and maintaining an exponential process. The key to this is two-way communication, especially when supported by the 7 Cs of the Social Change model of leadership. Whenever a leader can interact with other participants in the social change process, it is important to share their personality and beliefs in a way that is congruent with their self-concept, as developed through self-reflection. Yet this is only half of effective communication, as leaders must also listen to the needs, thoughts, and reflections of participants. Genuinely listening to those in subordinate and coordinate positions allows leaders to adapt their behavior based on others’ feedback and to integrate the values of others into their leadership process, ensuring that they can continue to evolve.

perhaps use a personal example here? Or I statements?

    2. I have a passion for global literacy, preservation of all forms of literature and prose, exploration of the complex relationship between physical and mental health, and support for others’ immediate well-being. These causes motivate me in all endeavors I pursue, especially when they are linked to any of the various groups I am a part of, as my commitment to assisting those around me is deeply tied to my role as an active citizen in those communities.

This is really good. Perhaps lead a paragraph with this?

    3. Everyone has a unique way of interpreting the world, everybody processes things differently, and one must be attentive to the needs and habits of others to work together effectively to incite positive change. Nevertheless, there are so many settings in which those in power neglect that fact. It seems that power should correspond with control and that those in leadership positions have the right to influence action toward what they perceive as ideal solutions and positive outcomes.

      Use some I statements here....

    1. Developing as a leader brings many challenges however, the results are worth it. It’s vital to always listen to your team, and to understand that not everything has to be decided by the leader. Team input is equally as crucial to the progress being made. Group involvement should be encouraged, and team members should realize that their purpose matters. Theorizing leadership creates a layout for aspirations and visualizations for people to see what kind of a leader someone is.

    2. People bring a variety of skills to a team, and identifying what assignments people are the best at allows for tasks to be completed by those who know the most about a certain area of expertise. Achieving a common purpose or goal as a team permits leaders and members to work towards the same change.

    3. When making decisions as a team it’s important to understand how collaborative processes work. Even if someone’s idea doesn’t fit the project well, they should still feel able to discuss it. A leader should listen to the concerns of their team, and address it to the best of their ability. Groups should also not feel fearful about expressing their opinions or ideals with others. It’s crucial to show compassion and develop a comfortable working space to complete tasks. Another value to be considered in leadership is community. We must engage with our surroundings and dive into the environment that we’re working in. If we gather and advocate for each other this builds resilience. Offering support to those around us can increase livelihood, as well as a sense of belonging. Getting involved in one’s community can create connections that inspires and empowers those around us.

How to write your leadership philosophy Building on the reflection you did to complete your Leadership Vision Board, now is the time to develop your personal leadership philosophy, as it stands today. Keep in mind that this will be a living document that you can return to throughout your life and career and tweak as you enter different seasons of life. Do not use ChatGPT or other AI platforms to write your philosophy statement.  Questions to consider when developing your leadership philosophy: Who are you? What’s unique about you? What is unique about your leadership style? (work style, communication style, personality, how you like to receive feedback, personal background) What’s your “why?” What motivates you? (i.e., core values, purpose, professional priorities) What are your expectations of yourself and others. How do you define success? How can you best contribute to a team? What you have learned from your personal leadership experiences, in the LEAD Scholars Academy, and your class discussions. How does your philosophy relate to the 7 Cs of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development: consciousness of self congruence commitment common purpose controversy with civility collaboration citizenship Lastly, be sure to connect the dots for your reader.  Imagine a hiring manager or potential supervisor is reading your leadership philosophy statement. After reading your statement, will they have a strong understanding of why and how you lead and the assets you bring to a team?
