For Ellison, there is a need to understand that white supremacy dehumanizes white people as well as people of color. There’s a cost to the privileges granted to whites in a white supremacist society that we need to better understand to grapple with our2problem.
This is such an interesting rhetorical flip, and I'm a little surprised I've never seen anyone discuss the issue in this way. Obviously, people of color are affected the most when white supremacy pops up, but I'm curious how an approach like this might change the conversation in a classroom that is overwhelmingly white.
